Take part in Write for Rights event

Tuesday, November 18th, 2014

Every year, around Human Rights Day on Dec. 10, hundreds of thousands of people around the world send a message to someone they’ve never met. Letter writing has always been at the core of Amnesty International’s work, and 53 years of human rights activism show that letters really do have the power to change lives.

You can be a part of this, too. The George Fox chapter of Amnesty International is hosting a Write for Rights event at the Coffee Cottage in Newberg on Monday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Come for the whole time, or just a few minutes and write a letter to change a life.

Click here for more information on the event. Contact Jennifer Newman at newmanj11@georgefox.edu if you have any questions.

We hope to see you there!

W-2 Forms are now paperless: Have you consented?

Tuesday, November 18th, 2014

In support of our Creation Care values, Human Resources will issue 2014 year-end W-2 forms online in “Self Service” for all employees. In order for the university to save the expense of purchasing, printing, stuffing into envelopes and delivering your form by campus mail, the law requires that you give your consent to receiving this form online. If you consented in the past, you do NOT need to do so again.

You can verify your consent status or give consent for the first time by following the steps below. It only takes about 30 seconds, so I encourage you to take care of it as soon as possible – perhaps right now? Here’s how:

  1. Log in to http://mygfu.georgefox.edu
  2. From the menu at left, select “Self Service”
  3. Select “Payroll and Compensation”
  4. Select “W-2/W-2c Consent”
  5. Check your current status. Does it say “Consent received?” If so, thank you! You’re done. If not …
  6. Read the statement and check the box to give consent. Click “Submit.”
  7. Enter your GFU password as a confirmation of your identity and click “Continue.”
  8. Click “OK”

You’ll receive a confirmation email of your decision shortly after completing this process. And just to be clear, you will only have to do this once – not every year.

Thanks very much. Let me know if you have any questions.

Katie Sol, Human Resources (ksol@georgefox.edu)

Support Operation Christmas Child

Sunday, November 16th, 2014

Operation Christmas Child is here! Be a part of blessing a child with a gift this Christmas. The process is simple: 1) Get a shoebox (we have these available in the SpIL annex and by request if you do not have one you can use). 2) Pick whether you will make a shoebox for a girl or a boy. 3) Get things to put in the shoebox. There is a list of suggested items and a list of items you cannot put into the box including perishable food, liquids, etc. For a complete list, visit the Samaritan’s Purse website. Finally, put a rubber band around it, put a sticky note on it identifying what living area you are from, and drop it off in the Bruin Den.

Empty boxes will be available in the Bruin Den this week, and all boxes must be dropped off by 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21. There will be a competition between living areas, and the one that wins will get an ice cream party!

Faculty and community members are welcome to participate!

Science Outreach Program equipment available for loan

Thursday, November 13th, 2014

The Science Outreach Program aims to serve the greater community and promote an interest in science from a Christ-centered perspective. Our purpose is to help advance science education, raise the scientific consciousness of the community, and share resources of the George Fox University Science Department.

We have scientific equipment many elementary, middle and high schools do not own. Equipment loans are also available to the homeschooling community. If you need microscopes, dissecting tools, physics models or a variety of other teaching items, we can loan them to you and help enrich scientific learning among your students and family. Equipment is loaned out on a first come, first served basis for up to one week (seven days).

To borrow equipment, send your requests to scienceoutreach@georgefox.edu. Questions? Contact Elizabeth Licon at elicon@georgefox.edu.
