Longing for a low-key, low-pressure night full of literary laughs? Then sigh no more: “Bad Poetry Night” is coming on Friday, Feb. 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. at a location to be determined.
“Bad poetry” doesn’t just mean your middle school love poems (though it certainly could include them). It could be a dramatic reading of a song, a Facebook post, or a series of tweets. It could be a truly awful poem you stumbled across on the Internet. It could be spoken word (or something akin to it). Or it could simply be a “bad” reading of a poem traditionally thought to be “good.”
The sign-up sheet will be posted in the Minthorne mail room. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Feb. 13. The event is being sponsored by the George Fox chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English Honor Society.
Questions? Contact Emily Lund (elund12@georgefox.edu).

The university’s baseball team lost a member of its family with the recent passing of Kim Hunter, wife of head coach Marty Hunter and mother to sons Taylor and Tucker. Kim has been an avid supporter of the Bruins since Marty began as a coach with the program in 2003.
This Sunday, Jan. 25, a celebration of life service for Kim will take place at 2 p.m. at the Canby High School Fine Arts Center. The university will be providing a bus to take people to the service. If you would like a ride, call Craig Taylor at 503-554-2911 to inform him of your interest. The bus will depart from the Le Shana parking lot at 12:30 p.m.
In addition, a reception will follow the celebration service at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds at 694 N.E. 4th Ave., in Canby. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made at Kim’s “Positivity Award” site at gofundme.com/kimhunter.

“The unchecked plague of slavery, rape, trafficking, illegal detention, land theft, police abuse and other brutality against the poor is a global crisis that undermines the well-intentioned fight for their freedom. Unless we STAND against it, nothing will change” (stand-for-freedom.com).

As some of you may know, January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. George Fox is honoring this in a few ways, one of which is hosting an information night on Portland human trafficking awareness.
The event, hosted by the Social Work Club, is set from 6:30 to 8 p.m. this Thursday, Jan. 22, in Hoover 105. We will host two well-informed speakers from the Human Trafficking Division of the Portland Police Bureau: Sergeant Chuck Lovell and Detective Brendan McGuire. They will help us to see a clearer picture of trafficking in Portland and focus on awareness, prevention and action.
Snacks and refreshments will be served, and we will provide an opportunity for Q&A afterwards. Please join us in this important event, and learn what you can do about human trafficking in your neighborhood!
