Security would like to remind everybody to slow down while driving around and through campus and to obey the speed limit. A staff member in a crosswalk was nearly hit this week by an inattentive driver speeding down Sheridan Street.
If a pedestrian is trying to cross on a crosswalk, stop and let them cross. Please approach crosswalks slowly and look for pedestrians before driving through them. Please also drive slowly on Fulton Street around the football stadium, as residents from Friendsview visit campus frequently on foot.

The Latino Heritage Club is seeking performers for the next Spoken Word Night on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 8 to 10 p.m. If you’re willing to perform a piece on the theme, please commit by emailing gfulhc@gmail.com by end of the day on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Completed pieces will be due Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Theme
In honor of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, occurring on Nov. 1 & 2, the theme for the spoken word event will be “Life and Death.” In Mexican communities, Day of the Dead is a day to celebrate the life that our loved ones lived.
What does the theme mean to you? Have you had to say goodbye to a loved one? If so, how did you cope? How does your culture teach or not teach you to cope? Has your culture shaped your view on death to be a positive one — believing a loved one is resting in a better place?
“Life and Death” are bold and heavy topics, and are accompanied by grief and struggle. What were some of the things you battled with at the time, and battle with now in regards to the topic? What stories does it trigger? Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable and honest.
Faculty, please encourage your students to participate. Questions? Contact Sandra Lopez at slopez11@georgefox.edu.
