The campus community is invited to a Liberal Arts and Critical Issues presentation this Monday, Oct. 5, in Hoover 105, when Cherice Bock, an adjunct professor at George Fox, presents “Restorative Earthkeeping and Global Development.” The same presentation will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. and again from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Guests are asked to attend the later session.

Bock will address questions including “What is the balance between using our brains to advance human ingenuity and well-being, and recognizing the limits of our planet? At what point do we have enough? And who is our neighbor?” Her presentation is the fifth in the “Majority World and the West” series.

It’s back … Passport Day! Do you need a new passport? Do you need to renew your passport? If you answered yes to either one of these questions, then you will not want to miss this opportunity.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 7-8, the university will host a representative from the Dundee Post Office to take your photo and help you process your passport application. This piece of document is very important if you intend to travel outside of the country. Listed below are Passport Day details:

• Wednesday, Oct. 7 – 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
• Thursday, Oct. 8 – 9 a.m. – noon

Fees:

Adult first-time applicants (age 16 years and older who do not currently hold a valid passport book or card)

• Adult Passport and Card, $140 + $25 (execution fee)
• Adult Passport Book, $110 + $25 (execution fee)
• Adult Passport Card, $30 + $25 (execution fee)

Adult renewal applicants (age 16 years and older who currently hold a valid passport book or card)

Come learn about opportunities to study abroad for a semester through George Fox! Representatives from more than 10 different ​study abroad ​programs ​representing​​ ​programs in more than 35 ​countries will be available for questions and information. Everyone is welcome!

Students who attend will have the opportunity to be entered into a $500 drawing that will be applied to the program fee or an airline ticket when they participate in a George Fox-approved study abroad program.​ Students will also be eligible for four $25 gift certificates to either the Coffee Cottage or Newberg Bakery.

The Department of Physical Therapy is excited to host Dr. Heiderscheit, a professor and director of research at the University of Wisconsin, on Friday, Oct. 9. Dr. Heiderscheit will present on hamstring injuries, a sports injury that is notoriously difficult to rehabilitate successfully. The title of his presentation is “Hamstring Strain Injuries: Recommendations for Rehabilitation and Injury Reduction.”

Everyone is encouraged to attend this free event, ask questions and welcome Dr. Heiderscheit to the university. Refreshments will be served from 5 to 6 p.m., and the presentation will take place in Hoover 105 from 6 to 7 p.m.

This Trail Blazers’ staff works closely together in a wide variety of areas, including marketing, management, Christian ministries, athletic training and more. Many congregations engage in some sort of social service delivery that addresses issues of poverty. However, what they do and why they do it varies greatly. Mark Mulder, an associate professor of sociology at Calvin College, will speak at George Fox to specifically examine the inability of white evangelicals to see and understand structural injustice as a perpetuating cause of poverty in the United States.

Matthew J. Milliner, an assistant professor of art history at Wheaton College and a member of the Curatorial Advisory Board of the United States Senate, will present a free lecture on the Newberg campus titled “Toward 2017: Visualizing Christian Unity” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in Hoover 105.

Milliner teaches across the range of art history, and his scholarly specialization is Byzantine and medieval art, with a focus on how such images inform contemporary visual culture. He has a PhD in art history from Princeton University and an MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary.
