There are many appointment slots open to donate blood. Our goal for this drive is to fill up all 98 slots. Please come donate if you are able to!

The Game Night Club is throwing our first Dominion Tournament this year in the Foxhole! The event is open to anyone who would like to come: students, employees, or your best friend from high school. We will start play at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, with a series of seeding games. Saturday’s bracket starts at 10 a.m. Prizes will go to the first- and second-place finishers.
Don’t know how to play Dominion but want to? Come to our Wednesday night meeting at 8:15 p.m. in the Foxhole and we will teach you the basics.

Sophia Tegart, instructor of flute, will join Jennifer Garrett, instructor of piano, and Valdine Mishkin, instructor of cello, to perform works by J.S. Bach, Cécile Chaminade, Chen Yi, and Carl Maria Von Weber at a faculty recital tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.
The program will highlight German, Italian and Chinese folk songs, as well as works by women composers. All are welcome, and admission is free.

Don Sappington, director for strategic initiatives at Remember Nhu, will speak on “Human Trafficking: The Global Crisis and a Cry to Do Something.” The same presentation will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. and again from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Guests are asked to attend the later session.
Sappington will discuss what is being done – and what we can do – to combat the human trafficking that is taking place across the globe and in our own region. His presentation is the eighth in the “Majority World and the West” series.

Residence life, ASC and security services are teaming up to sponsor self-defense training for interested women on campus. The one-day session will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at a location to be determined.
The training is relevant to all athletic and non-athletic types and can be modified to differing physical abilities and challenges. The class is limited to 20 women, and sign-ups are now open in the Office of Student Life.
The cost is $25 for non-undergraduates; there is no cost for undergraduate women. This is open to any female member of the George Fox community.

Save the date for the Fall Staff Development Conference! This year’s theme is “Building Bridges in Service and Leadership.” Our keynote speaker is Gary Sehorn, an assistant professor in the School of Education since 2010.
The half-day event will be on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Light snacks will be available in the morning, and we will provide a catered lunch. The conference will be held at Family Life Church, 502 S. St. Paul Hwy., in Newberg.

Apple’s recent release of the El Capitan operating system (OS X 10.11) has resulted in an incompatibility with the FortiClient VPN. This is the VPN client used to connect to the George Fox network from off campus. The impact of this varies. ​In the best case users are unable to browse the web. In the worst cases users computers may observe repeated system restarts.
Based on this information, the Service Desk is recommending that users do not update their Mac computers to El Capitan until a compatible client is available. If you have already updated to El Capitan you are encouraged to uninstall the FortiClient VPN software while in Safe Mode.

To get your tickets, go to this link, select “Buy Tickets” and choose “GFU Employee” from the drop-down menu when prompted. Employees (half time and above) are entitled to up to four complimentary tickets for Sunday’s matinee performance or a single ticket for any of the other performances (at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 11-12).
Tickets are not transferable and need to be returned if they will not be used. A limited number of tickets are available, so if you plan to attend hurry before the concert is sold out!

Noble, chaplain at William Clarke College in Sydney, Australia, will give a talk titled, “Resting for God.” He has spent the last three decades living on four continents and working in government, corporate, academic and pastoral settings.
After working in international banking in Tokyo for several years at the height of the Japanese economic boom, he pursued theological studies at Regent College. He then taught at the University of Sydney for 14 years before taking up his current position as chaplain to an educational community of 1,700 people, a role he has held since 2005.

Lane, Class of 1943 Professor of Politics at Princeton University, will give a talk titled, “The Politics of Unsustainability: Plato on the Logic of Constitutional Change.†Lane’s books include The Birth of Politics: Eight Greek and Roman Political Ideas and Why They Matter (Princeton, 2015); Eco-Republic (Princeton, 2012); Plato’s Progeny (Duckworth, 2001); and Method and Politics in Plato’s Statesman (Cambridge, 1998).
Wilfred M. McClay: Thursday, Nov. 5, 7:30 p.m., Hoover 105
McClay is the G.T. and Libby Blankenship Chair in the History of Liberty at the University of Oklahoma and also director of the Center for the History of Liberty. His talk is titled, “Why Religious Liberty Matters.†McClay’s book, The Masterless: Self and Society in Modern America, won the Merle Curti Award of the Organization of American Historians for the best book in American intellectual history.

Have you been wondering what happens to the prayer requests in the Prayer Chapel? Come to Burnt Offerings in the Pavilion on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. as we gather around a fire, worship, and pray over each anonymous request, giving it as an offering to God.
This is a great way to gather in community and pray, worship around a campfire, and enter into the presence of God on behalf of our friends and community here. If the thought of prayer intimidates you, we would encourage you to come and be present in a community of prayer to witness the work God is doing.
