Seeking September Employee of the Month nominations

Monday, August 31st, 2015

Back to school and back to Employee of the Month awards! This month marks the seventh anniversary of this tradition that honors our outstanding colleagues.

With so many who worked so hard to ensure that the new year began well for our employees and students, there are probably many whose contributions have especially stood out over the last several weeks.  If you know someone you believe deserves special recognition for “above and beyond” kind of work, please send an email to Peggy Kilburg (pkilburg@georgefox.edu) by Thursday, Sept. 17, with a summary of this colleague’s recent contributions and any other information that makes this person deserving of this award.

The President’s Executive Leadership Team will select the recipient from the nominations submitted, and the winner will be honored with a citation and a $100 Visa gift card at our first community meeting later in September.

Mail and Print Services’ fall housekeeping items

Sunday, August 30th, 2015

As we gear up for the start of school, here are just a few reminders to keep in mind:

  • Remember that when submitting any print jobs to Print Services, a chart of accounts number must accompany the job. If a student worker is placing the order, please make sure that student has all of the proper information when the job is being submitted. In addition, when you are sending out mail and packages that are being charged to the department, please make sure that your chart of accounts number is provided.
  • Effective July 1, the beginning of this fiscal year, Print Services changed the way departments order paper. When ordering 20# white paper, either by the case or by the ream, departments will no longer be required to include a chart of accounts number when ordering. This is due to the fact that 20# bond white is part of the copy fleet program. Therefore, as long as you are ordering 20# bond white for your copier machine (Kyoceras and Ricohs), no chart of accounts number is needed. However, if you are ordering specialty paper, which is anything other than 20# bond white, your department chart of accounts number will be required, even if the paper will be going through the copy machine, as it is not part of the copier fleet program.
  • Mail Services is no longer accepting “IOU’s.” When sending personal packages, shipping must be paid by either cash or check.
  • Please note that our campus courier only delivers between the Newberg campus and Portland Center on Mondays and Thursdays only. If you have any items that need to go to Portland, please have the items to Mail Services by 10:30 a.m.
  • Remember, student workers must have the department lanyard when picking up mail and packages. Mail Services will not release packages without the lanyard. If you do not have a current lanyard for the 2015-16 academic year, please contact Richard Silver to get one at 503-554-2551 or rsilver@georgefox.edu.

Registering formal student complaints

Tuesday, August 25th, 2015

While most student concerns and complaints can and should be resolved informally, there is a formal general complaint procedure described in the “Support for Students” section of the Undergraduate Student Handbook as well as on the Graduate/DPS Policies page of the website.

Please note that these procedures cover complaints of a general nature and do not supersede specific policies involving special cases such as grade appeals, sexual harassment, etc., which are covered elsewhere in the Student Handbook, Catalog or Graduate/DPS Policies.

For more information, contact the student life department at studentlife@georgefox.edu.

Information on your new Bruin Store

Tuesday, August 25th, 2015

Follett Higher Education Group took over operation of the BlueZone Bookstore in June of 2015. The store has been renamed the Bruin Store (Georgefoxshop.com), and now offers textbooks and merchandise in one location. At the beginning of each semester, undergraduate and graduate textbooks will be offered for sale in the Bruin Store and no longer in the Textbook Annex. The remainder of the year the Bruin Store will be your source for Bruin apparel, accessories, gifts and general school supplies.

Part of our agreement with Follett is that they have the exclusive right to sell merchandise and services traditionally offered in college and university bookstores, including but not limited to, all required course materials (print and digital); class and alumni rings and jewelry; clothing (whether or not emblematic); school supplies; desk and dorm accessories; gifts; souvenirs; graduation regalia (sale and rental) and announcements; course-adopted software and paper and electronic custom anthologies; and textbook buybacks.

This agreement does not prohibit sales by student groups or student government organizations, but Follett should be consulted with prior to these sales.

If you have any questions, please email Matt Hammar at mhammar@georgefox.edu.
