George Fox employee benefits news

Monday, February 22nd, 2016

Annual open enrollment is Feb. 24 – March 11
During open enrollment, benefit-eligible employees can make changes to benefits without a “change in status” reason. Changes made during open enrollment will take effect April 1, 2016.
Whether or not you make any changes to your benefit elections, you need to complete the “Open Enrollment Election Form.” This is a new electronic form that will be delivered to your George Fox email on Feb. 24. So watch your inbox for 2016-17 open enrollment rates and details!

If you decide to add coverage or make any changes to your current coverage, you will need to complete the appropriate enrollment forms (available on the Human Resources website) and return them to mailbox #6108 by end-of-day Friday, March 11.

Attend our George Fox employee benefit fair on Friday
Visit our George Fox benefit vendors! Booths will be hosted by: TIAA-CREF, Regence, Kaiser, Allegiance, LifeMap and our George Fox Alumni Office.

Human Resources will also be hosting a booth at the fair, so stop by with your benefit questions or to turn in your open enrollment forms!

The fair will take place Friday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cap and Gown Room.

Mark Hall speaks on religious liberty and same-sex marriage tonight

Sunday, February 21st, 2016

All are invited to a Liberal Arts and Critical Issues lecture tonight (Monday) when Mark David Hall, the university’s Herbert Hoover Distinguished Professor of Politics, speaks on the topic “Religious Liberty and Same-Sex Marriage: Conflicts and Possibilities” in Hoover 105. The same presentation will be made from 5 to 6 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The legalization of same-sex marriage and the adoption of laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation have resulted in cases that may force some religious citizens to choose between their livelihoods and their religious convictions. Mark discusses potential and actual conflicts and draws from American history to argue that it is possible to protect religious liberty without undermining the common good.

The theme for this semester’s LACI series is “Christianity and Pop Culture.” For more information, contact Laurie Fair at lfair@georgefox.edu.

Follow the approved process to pursue grants

Thursday, February 18th, 2016

Want to pursue a grant?

First step: Do your research! Grants can be incredibly time-consuming (especially federal grants). Explore potential funders, record deadlines, and carefully consider your program or research needs. If you want help identifying a funder, don’t hesitate to contact the Office of Advancement; it has access to a foundations database.

Most important step: Once you know which grant you want to pursue and you’ve discussed it with your dean, you must fill out the Grant Proposal Approval Form (located on the PeopleSoft homepage). All employees pursuing a grant must adhere to this process. Beyond your dean, the advancement office will facilitate all approvals on your behalf.

Why? Going through this process ensures staff and faculty don’t compete for the same grant, we dedicate faculty and administrator time to the highest priorities, and we don’t sign any grant paperwork that obligates George Fox to something unexpected. Depending on time and resources, the advancement office will typically provide helpful feedback on the proposal, facilitate the submission process, and help you with reporting back to the funder. The Office of Advancement also processes all money and contracts in partnership with other offices.

We’re your partner in the grant process! For more info, check out this Grant Process & Procedures document. If you have any questions or want to chat about a new or existing grant, contact Britt Hoskins, associate director of advancement communications & grants, at ext. 2132 or bhoskins@georgefox.edu.
