Remember to attend the opening reception for the Student Art Exhibit today (Thursday) from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Minthorne and Lindgren galleries.

This year, more than 80 pieces are in the show! Come see wonderful student work, grab a snack, and enjoy the company of other art and design enthusiasts. Prize winners will be announced!

The exhibit will run through Thursday, April 7, and then we will make way for senior shows.

Join us for documentary about Motown today in Ross 208

Join us as we watch a documentary about Motown (the company that produced The Supremes, The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and more). We will explore how Motown helped foster racial reconciliation in the U.S. and examine the role music can play in bringing about social change.

U.S. Senate candidates visit campus for debate tomorrow

Tomorrow (Thursday), the George Fox chapter of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and the university’s politics department are co-hosting a U.S. Senate candidate forum on the Newberg campus.

Sam Carpenter (R), Mark Callahan (R), Dan Laschober (R), Faye Stewart (R) and Kevin Stine (D) have all confirmed that they will be in attendance. This bipartisan forum is designed for students and Oregonians to get to know the candidates and their platforms.

Come watch Bruins compete in Sweet 16 at viewing party Friday

The undefeated women’s basketball team is heading to Saint Paul, Minn., to compete in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament! Come watch the game against Texas-Tyler on Friday, March 11, at our official viewing party in Hoover 105, complete with snacks and extra Bruin spirit. The doors will open at 3:15 p.m. (game tips off at 3:30 p.m.).

If the Bruins win Friday, they will play on Saturday at 5 p.m. We will host a viewing party in Hoover 105 for that game as well, with doors opening at 4:45 p.m.

Last day to park in gravel lot is March 15

We have just been informed by Habitat for Humanity that construction will begin Wednesday, March 16, on their new building in the gravel lot we lease. The last day to park in that lot will be Tuesday, March 15.

For those who usually use that lot, we recommend parking in the Le Shana lot at the corner of Villa and Fulton streets. We apologize for the short notice.

Volunteers needed in physical therapy department today

Volunteers are needed today (Wednesday) in the physical therapy department. Have you ever been tanning or currently tan (inside or outside)? Do you have sun-damaged skin or other various skin conditions (moles, eczema, previous melanoma)? Our PT students will be doing a skin analysis today and we need you!

An MD will be in the class with our students and professors, so this is a great opportunity to have a free skin analysis done. Please wear clothes that you are comfortable in and that can show the area of skin to be looked at. Only five spots are available, and you won’t want to miss out!

Sessions are between 2:45 and 4:20 p.m. in Room 204 of the Roberts Center. Contact Gina Braden at 503-554-2450 to get a spot.

Free ‘We’ve got Your Back’ PT class offered

Have you been experiencing back pain or want to know what exercises or stretches evidence shows to decrease symptoms of back pain? “We’ve Got Your Back” is a free five-part class on the prevention and management of back pain.

Li-Zandre van Eeden, PT, DPT, and the university’s School of Physical Therapy will sponsor the class, which will meet on five Thursdays between March 24 and April 21. Sessions are scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. in Room 202 in the Roberts Center (501 N. Villa Road). Attending all five sessions is encouraged but not required.

Encourage students to attend academic path workshop tomorrow

Encourage student to attend a workshop, “Charting Your Academic Path: MyGFU, Course Selection & Effective Planning,” tomorrow (Thursday).

In this session, CAP Coaches from the IDEA Center will give tips on how to use the degree audit, online catalog, class schedule and other resources. They will also discuss options if students are concerned about their midterm grades.

The workshop runs from 10:50 to 11:35 a.m. in Lemmons 8.

Lori DeKruyf presents Spring Faculty Lecture on March 15

The university community is invited to the 2016 Spring Faculty Lecture, “Superheroes, School Counselors, Professional Identity & Getting the Job Done,” featuring Lori DeKruyf, PhD, professor of counseling and recipient of the 2014-15 Graduate Faculty Achievement Award for Research and Scholarship.

Join us on Tuesday, March 15, for the presentation. The lecture runs from 6 to 7 p.m. in Hoover 105. Lori will explore what happens when training and professional identity are at odds with job assignments – for “superheroes” and for school counselors – and offer suggestions as to what might be done. The event is sponsored by the Richter Committee and the Faculty Development Committee.

Prior to the lecture that evening, the 2016 Spring Richter Student Scholars Symposium is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Hoover lobby. Student scholars from George Fox graduate and undergraduate programs will present their research in a conversational poster format. Refreshments will be served in both the symposium and lecture.

Students will have chance to meet U.S. Senator candidates Thursday

This Thursday, March 10, students will get the opportunity to meet the candidates running for U.S. Senate in Oregon at a Candidate Debate Forum from 6 to 8 p.m. in Hoover 105.

This is a great opportunity to learn about candidates’ views and even talk with them during the meet-and-greet portion of the evening. Candidates will discuss hot-button topics, including abortion, environmental issues and gun laws. Both Democrats and Republicans will be attending.

Take advantage of this opportunity to expand your network and gain connections in the political world, possibly even with the next U.S. Senator! Political candidates are always looking for interns in many different fields, so this will be the perfect opportunity to gain contacts.
