Tickets are still available to see Mr. Darwin’s Tree, the acclaimed British one-man play about the life and work of Charles Darwin, scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in Wood-Mar Auditorium. Produced by Scholarship and Christianity in Oxford (SCIO) and sponsored by George Fox’s science and religion clubs, the play aims to enhance the conversation on science and religion.
Written by noted playwright and director Murray Watts (The Miracle Maker, KJB: The Book that Changed the World, The Dream) and starring British film, TV and theatre actor Andrew Harrison (Dorian Gray, Miss Marple, Beyond Narnia), Mr. Darwin’s Tree presents a very human and very real Charles Darwin, one who wrestled with the challenges that his theories posed for traditional beliefs.
Admission is free, but if you plan to attend an RSVP is requested, available at this link.
Questions? Contact Jeongah Kim at jkim@georgefox.edu. More about the play is available at mrdarwinstree.com or scio-uk.org.

It will be an exciting summer as we open the new dining hall, Canyon Commons! This facility will feature a large dining hall area (seating up to 555), three conference/meeting rooms (holding from 80 to 90 each that can also be combined to create a larger space), the president’s dining room (seating up to 20), and an espresso cafe (seating up to 60).
In May, construction will also begin on the remodeling of the former dining hall, servery, kitchen and Cap and Gown Room into space for the College of Engineering, which means that the Bruin Den and Bruin Bites will be impacted. Following are important dates to keep in mind in terms of meal service venues for the summer:
- Groovy Bruin Food Truck: Available adjacent to the library from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning on May 2 until the Bruin Den reopens (approximately June 13)
- Canyon Commons Dining Hall:Â Days and hours will vary throughout the summer depending on the conference schedule.
- Canyon Commons Espresso Cafe: We’re anticipating that the new café will be open for service beginning June 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday
- Roberts Center/Villa Cafe: The last day of operation for the Roberts Center/Villa Cafe will be Friday, May 27.
- Bruin Den: Closed from May 2 to approximately June 13, after which it will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday
Thank you for your flexibility, patience and understanding as we transition to a new facility! Questions regarding food service can be directed to Denny Lawrence (dlawrenc@georgefox.edu), resident district manager with Bon Appetit Management Company, or Brad Lau (blau@georgefox.edu), vice president for student life.
