Important info for home football game Saturday

Tuesday, August 30th, 2016

The campus will look a little different on Saturday as we prepare to host around 3,000 guests at our first football game of the year that afternoon at 1 p.m.. Here are some things to make note of:

Bauman Parking Lot
Be sure to move your cars out of the Bauman parking lot on Friday evening. This space will be dedicated to vendors and tailgating on Saturday. Stop by on Saturday and check out all of the food and activities happening before the game!

Entrances to the Football Game
There will be two entrances into the game and both are located in the Bauman parking lot, directly behind the stadium.

Wheeler Sports Center Closed
The Wheeler Sports Center will be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This means the basketball gym, racquetball courts and locker rooms will be closed. The Fitness Center will remain open for normal business hours, but you will need to enter through the hallway entrance located on the field level, toward the end of the building near the tennis courts. There will be security officers who will ask you where you are headed; just let them know that you are going to work out.

Bauman Walkway
The sidewalk located between the football stadium and Bauman will be closed. Please walk around the building and do not move the barricade.

Barricades
If you see a barricade, it is there for a reason. Please do not move them, jump over them, crawl under them, or unlock them.

Circle Parking Lot
The circle parking lot near Wheeler will be closed for the day. This space is reserved for officials to park in. Officials will arrive as early as 8:30 a.m.

Sideline Passes
No one will be granted field access without a sideline pass. Sideline passes are issued to those who are required to work and/or have official business during the game.

Tickets
Students and staff can show their ID cards at the gate to get into the game. Additional tickets can be purchased at the gate or online by visiting this ticket link.

We hope to see you at the game at 1 p.m. and the tailgates prior to that! We will be taking on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

FoxTALE start-of-semester reminders

Tuesday, August 30th, 2016

Use your new, empty Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 sites as the sites in which you will teach. You may import content from another course site. See the instructions here for importing.

Your Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 sites are hidden to students. When you are ready to make a site available, go to Administration> Course administration > Edit settings on the course home page. Remember that all students enrolled in your class in MyGFU will automatically be enrolled in your FoxTALE course site. As students add and drop your course in MyGFU, they will be added or removed automatically from your FoxTALE site

If your course site is set to Weekly format, your course might show incorrect dates. To change the dates, go to Administration> Edit settings on the course home page. Scroll down to the course start date and change it to the first day of your 2016 fall course. Scroll to the bottom of the page and “Save changes.”

Parking registration and information

Tuesday, August 30th, 2016

Here are some answers to some of the questions that security has received about vehicle registration, parking permit pick-up, and where your permit allows you to park.

  1. Even if you registered a vehicle last year, you still need to register it every year.
  2. The vehicle registration link is located on the homepage of MyGFU and is found underneath “GFU Resources.”
  3. You will need your DMV registration card or insurance card in front of you, as the registration process needs information from those cards.
  4. Have a new car and don’t have the license plates yet? Just input the temporary trip permit number into the license plate field when you register. When you get your plates, email the number to Nadine Kincaid at nkincaid@georgefox.edu and she will override the database and put the correct plate numbers on your registration in lieu of your temporary trip permit.
  5. Married students should have one spouse register both cars to avoid being charged as two separate students.
  6. Commuters can register up to two cars, and are only charged for one, but they must be YOUR family’s cars, not your roommate or friends’ vehicles.
  7. If you live on campus, input your campus address and PO box number as your mailing address. You will sign for your permit at Mail Services; it will NOT show up in your PO box.
  8. Commuters can input the address that they commute from as their mailing address, or use their campus address and PO box number.
  9. Here is a copy of the parking brochure/map that you can print out until your permit arrives
  10. Please print out the temporary permit from the link that will be emailed to you upon registration completion, and place that on your dashboard until your permit arrive.

Questions? Out-of-the-box vehicle situation? Call 503-554-2090 or email Nadine Kincaid at nkincaid@georgefox.edu.

Want to pursue a grant? Follow the approval process

Monday, August 29th, 2016

If you are a faculty or staff member thinking about pursuing grant funding, that’s great! But there is a process to follow to ensure you don’t hit any road bumps.

First step: Do your research! Grants can be incredibly time-consuming (especially federal grants). Explore potential funders, record deadlines, and carefully consider your program or research needs. If you want help identifying a funder, don’t hesitate to contact University Advancement; it has access to a foundations database.

Most important step: Once you know which grant you want to pursue and you’ve discussed it with your dean, you must fill out the Grant Proposal Approval Form (located on the PeopleSoft homepage). All employees pursuing a grant must adhere to this process. Beyond your dean, University Advancement will facilitate all approvals on your behalf.

Why? Going through this process ensures staff and faculty don’t compete for the same grant, we dedicate faculty and administrator time to the highest priorities, and we don’t sign any grant paperwork that obligates George Fox to something unexpected. Depending on time and resources, Advancement will typically provide helpful feedback on the proposal, facilitate the submission process, and help you with reporting back to the funder. Advancement also processes all money and contracts in partnership with other offices.

We’re your partner in the grant process! For more info, check out this Grant Process & Procedures document. If you have any questions or want to chat about a new or existing grant, contact Britt Hoskins, associate director of advancement communications and grants, at ext. 2132 or bhoskins@georgefox.edu.

Libraries, IT now take debit and credit cards for print cards, other purchases

Monday, August 29th, 2016

Effective July 1, the MLRC and Portland Center libraries are now only accepting debit and credit cards to purchase print cards. No more digging in your pockets or wallet for that extra change to purchase a print card. You can now purchase the print card you need with your debit/credit card. The library will accept cash or checks for other library purchases.

All IT purchases are now paid with a debit or credit card. They not only accept your debit or credit card, but Apple and Android Pay is also available. So if you need a new ID card, power adapter or to pay for those unexpected repair parts, you will no longer need to provide cash or a check. Just put it on the card.

Please note: ID cards will no longer be charged to student accounts.
