Foroohar is author of the book Makers and Takers: The Rise of Finance and the Fall of American Business. Her TIME column “The Curious Capitalist” covers global economic and political issues. The event is part of an international speaker series hosted by the World Affairs Council of Oregon.

End-of-the-fiscal-year deposits to be included in this year’s budget must be in finance no later than July 1, 2016. Checks dated prior to June 30 must be deposited in the current fiscal year.

Please look around your desks and file cabinets to see if there are any lingering items that need to go to the bank. Final petty cash reconciliations for this fiscal year are due in finance no later than July 8, 2016. Please remember to submit all receipts, cash and reconciliation reports before this deadline. If you will be taking vacation over the July 4 holiday, please plan ahead and send these over before you leave. If you want to make any of those course sites visible to students after this update, select “Edit settings” in the Course Administration block. In the “General” section, look for the “Visible” setting and change “Hide” back to “Show.” Scroll to bottom and “Save changes.”

The hours of operation for our Groovy Bruin food cart will be changing slightly. Effective today (Monday, May 16), we will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Staff: There are still funds left in the Professional Development Fund! If you have attended a job-related seminar or training since July 1, 2015, or have one scheduled before June 30, please go to the Staff Development Committee website to download the application.

Please include a copy of your proof of payment for your training and the complete Chart of Accounts numbers for your department. Funds are dispersed on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds run out, so don’t delay! Only one training per person per fiscal year should be submitted for potential reimbursement.

All are invited to participate in the university’s Community Garden. We’re going to meet for an information and work day this Saturday, May 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. We’ll talk about when we want to meet regularly throughout the summer and what we want to plant this year. We’ll plant some things and continue working to build up beds and get the garden space ready to go.

If you want to participate in the garden but can’t come on Saturday, contact Cherice Bock (cbock@georgefox.edu) to be put on the email list and learn about future gatherings.

We meet weekly throughout the summer, usually on a weekday evening, including a potluck meal.

The cost is $10 per student and $15 per adult (children free) for those who can contribute. This covers seeds and seedlings.

You’re welcome to come to this meeting and check it out, without making a commitment to joining for the whole summer. The garden is located in the field on the corner of Villa and Crestview streets.
