Important year-end information for those using university Visa cards

With the end of our fiscal year quickly approaching, and to ensure a clean cut-off between 2015/16 and 2016/17 spending, the last day to use your Visa card for current fiscal year purchases is Friday, June 24. Please refrain from using your card for any purchases after this date.

If you will be traveling for business during this time, please contact Matt Hammar or Kathi Becker to discuss arrangements on how to handle travel after June 24. Credit card purchases for the 2016/17 fiscal year can begin on or after July 1. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Matt at ext 2162 or Kathi at ext. 2166.

The university’s international studies program has a limited number of free tickets to hear Bill McKibben, environmental activist and founder of 350.org, speak as part of the World Affairs Council of Oregon’s International Speakers Series tonight (Thursday). The presentation begins at 7 p.m. at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall (1037 S.W. Broadway).

Accounts Payable Year-End Deadlines

Fiscal-year-end 2015/2016 is quickly approaching, and the finance department would appreciate your help in ensuring a smooth and timely year-end close. Please review and note the following deadlines for accounts payable requests:

1. Submission of the following FY2015/2016 requests must be received by the finance department on or before July 8, 2016:

  • Check Requests
  • Invoices
  • Expense Reimbursement Requests
  • Petty Cash Logs for expenses through June 30, 2016, only

2. All Cash Advance Requests for FY2015/2016 expenses must be received by the finance department on or before June 13, 2016.

Flags lowered in respect of Orlando shooting victims

The campus flags will be lowered to half-staff through sunset on Thursday, June 16, as a mark of respect for the victims of the act of hatred and terror perpetrated on Sunday, June 12, in Orlando, Fla.

Print Services’ Point of Sale software is coming

The long-awaited Point of Sale software is almost here! On Friday, July 1, the Office of Print Services will be going live with a new method of accepting jobs. You will now be able to send jobs to Print Services via web-to-print.

The web-based software will have all printing options for you to choose from. This web link will give you a sneak peek at the site; you will need to log in with your George Fox user name and password. More information will follow as the launch date draws near.

Oregon Writing Project summer camps scheduled

The Oregon Writing Project Collaborative at George Fox University is pleased to be offering several Young Writers Camps for third- through 12th-grade students. This organization, part of the College of Education, has offered these camps for years at its previous location and is thrilled to be launching them through George Fox.

Topics include Oregon Battle of the Books, Superheroes for a Cause, Creative Nonfiction, and Code/Create/Compose. Please feel free to pass this along to those who might benefit from this experience.

Librarians visit, play ‘First Lady Lou’ presented this week

The Association of Christian Librarians 60th annual conference is scheduled on the George Fox campus June 13-17. The conference will draw librarians from around the United States and several foreign countries.

Conference events include a presentation of the play First Lady Lou, a one-woman dramatization of the life of Lou Hoover, wife of President Herbert Hoover, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, in Wood-Mar Auditorium. The play features professional actress Jane Fellows in the title role. The campus community is invited to the presentation with tickets, available at the door, for $5.

After the play, a “talk-back” session with Fellows and Leslie Hoover-Lauble, great-granddaughter of Herbert and Lou Hoover, will be moderated by the university’s archivist Rachel Thomas. Herbert Hoover, the 31st president of the United States, attended the precursor to George Fox, Friends Pacific Academy, in the 1880s.
