The School of Nursing and the School of Social Work will be holding a joint simulation for our senior students to “walk a mile” in the shoes of those facing poverty. For this simulation to be successful, we are in need of volunteers to play the role of the community agencies the students will interact with.
The simulation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Canyon Commons 101 and 102. If you are interested in volunteering on one or both days or have questions, please contact Molly Murphy at mmurphy@georgefox.edu or 503-554-2963.

You don’t have to be an athlete or coach to be part of Bruins LEAD. It is simply an opportunity to develop your leadership skills. We will take basic leadership concepts and spend one hour diving into details of how to develop responsible and respected leaders.
Each week, you will get to hear from one of our coaches on the following topics:

She is passionate about prophetically calling people, groups and organizations to become all that God says they are, through the lens of identity, leadership development and discipleship. During Vespers this week (Wednesday at 7 p.m.), we’ll look at Romans 3 and dive deeper into the idea of being one.
Wednesday night after Vespers, info meetings for EMBRACE (Outreaches to Department of Health Services, foster parents and children in care) as well as Big/Little Bruins are scheduled, so stick around in Bauman to hear about those ministries.

The university’s passport days event starts today (Tuesday). If you are planning to travel internationally, you will need a current passport to get into other countries. A representative from the post office will be on hand to facilitate the process of getting you a new passport or renewing your old one.
To review the current fees for passports, visit this link. Passport days will be today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Klages Center (Room 231).
Passport days are also open to the public, so please feel free to share this with your friends and family. Payment can be made by either cash or check. You must have the exact amount if you are paying by cash.
You will need the following two pieces of ID with you when you arrive:
Two types of passports are available – Passport Book and Passport Card. The card is not good for any flights. You must have the book if you are flying out of the country.

The meeting will feature various updates, including the financial year end/surplus report, and the recipients of the Administrator of the Year and Staff of the Year will be announced. The event will be live-streamed at the Portland Center in Room 160.
Women employees: Don’t forget to join Ruth Baker for a salad luncheon today (Monday) in Canyon Commons, Room 101 (this replaces the salad supper events from previous years).
Ruth’s hope is this change in schedule and format will be more accommodating to schedules and provide opportunities for fellowship and in making new acquaintances. The come-and-go luncheon, catered by Bon Appetit, will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

We are hosting an event, Matheteis, designed to provide space for faculty, staff/administrators and students to discuss difficult topics that lead to learning and understanding. Afterwards, attendees will have the chance to ask questions themselves and join the discussion.

The new 15,000-square-foot facility includes a configurable project-build space (“Maker_hub”); machine, welding and woodworking shops; an additive manufacturing lab; design studios; a computer design lab; environmental, geotechnical, construction and transportation lab spaces; and a tool room. The evening will include an open house, student demonstrations and a short dedication program at 8 p.m.

Tonight (Monday) at the Chehalem Cultural Center, Nathan Huff will speak on his artistic practice and his work currently on display in Minthorne Gallery.
Huff produces paintings, drawings and sculpture that create freewheeling narratives: stories of suspending gravity, traversing emotional vertigo, and sorting reservoirs of memories. He earned an MFA in drawing and painting from California State University, Long Beach, and a degree in art education from Azusa Pacific University. He also studied art in Italy, France, the United Kingdom and Spain.
Come hear about Huff’s thought-provoking artwork tonight from 6 to 7 p.m. in the ballroom of the Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.)!

The Medallion Hunt, an annual event put on by Alumni and Parent Relations, brings together students and alumni for a fun, campus-wide treasure hunt. The custom crystal medallion has already been hidden somewhere on campus, and the lucky person to find it receives $200 and a gets to keep it.
To solve the clues and win the prize, you’ll have to tap into your knowledge of campus and George Fox history and do some research sleuthing to make your way to the secret location. It’s elementary, my dear Watson!

Come join the GFU Car Club at our first campus car show this Sunday, Sept. 25! The show will take place in the Stevens Center parking lot from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Several of the local dealerships will be here with some of their high-performance models, as well as cars from the community. We are hoping to fill the lot will all makes and models of vehicles. We welcome anyone to bring their classic, import or modified car to the show or just come and check out the cars!
