Faculty, students and staff are invited to hear Jekabs Bikis present on “George Fox University’s College of Business in the Next Five Years” today (Thursday) from 3 to 4 p.m. in Lemmons 8.

Bikis is a candidate for the position of dean of the College of Business. He has a doctorate in public policy and political economy from the University of Texas, and is chair of the business administration department at LCC University in Klaipeda, Lithuania.

Make plans to attend all-employee meeting this afternoon

Film ‘War Don Don’ shown tomorrow night

Join us as we watch the movie War Don Don and discuss the complexities of international justice and individual accountability in instances of war. The film will be shown at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) at the Chehalem Cultural Center, 415 E. Sheridan St.

Spots still available for today’s healthy cooking demonstration

Spots are still available for the 5:10 p.m. healthy cooking class demonstration. It is part of our Health and Wellness Clinic that we are offering today (Thursday)! You do not need to participate in the clinic to participate in the cooking class. The class lasts approximately 30 minutes and will be held in the Roberts Center.

Fred Gregory leads ‘Turning of the Page’ session Friday

Fred Gregory will conduct a “Turning of the Page” session tomorrow (Friday) on Volume 1 of The Saint John’s Bible (Pentateuch). Come and “see the Word” as the biblical message comes to life in this historic illuminated Bible.

The session runs from 4 to 4:30 p.m. in the MLRC.

Donation boxes set up to help Portland-area refugees

A relief effort for refugees in the Portland area begins this week!

The Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon is accepting a variety of items to distribute to Muslim families in need. It is our duty to help provide relief for those in need and welcome these people to our country in any way possible. Items needed include:

  • Lamps
  • Dishes, pots, pans and silverware
  • Toiletries (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, towels, etc.)
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Bed linens, warm blankets, pillows
  • Diapers

All of these items can be dropped off either at the SpIL House or in one of the labeled boxes in the Canyon Commons. Any contributions that can be made are greatly appreciated!

Important info on new Google Sites

If you currently use Google Sites, you may have seen that Google has introduced a new version of Sites. In addition to the intuitive technology, integration with G Suite apps, and attractive design, the new Sites now includes the ability to track performance with Google Analytics, six new themes, and other helpful features.

The existing, classic version of Sites will continue to exist in parallel with the new Sites as Google adds capabilities that are similar to those found in the classic Sites.

Christmas tree permit required

The holidays are around the corner, and if you are planning to put up a Christmas tree on campus please remember to fill out a Christmas Tree Permit located on this Plant Services webpage.

Please remember the requestor is responsible for purchase, installation, decorating, undercoating, watering and removal of permitted trees. Trees must be watered by department and must be removed no later than Thursday, Dec. 22. There is a $100 fine for violation of terms.

Bakers invite employees to Christmas Concert and open house Dec. 11

Robin and Ruth Baker cordially invite employees to celebrate together the great mystery of Christ the Lord at the Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2:30 p.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

Employees are entitled to four complimentary tickets for Sunday’s matinee or a single ticket for any of the other performances (on Dec. 9 or 10). Following the concert on Sunday, employees are invited to a Christmas open house at the president’s home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 402 S. College St., in Newberg.

You can select your concert tickets online at this link (be sure to select “GFU Employee” in the drop-down menu on the page that pops up after making your seat selection). If selecting your complimentary seats for Sunday, you may disregard the note that states employees are only entitled to one ticket per event; however, you must still select “Okay, I will bring my ID to the door” in the drop-down menu.

Alumnus and former missionary speaks in chapel today

It is International Education Week. In recognition, our chapel guest today (Tuesday) is Vicente Pinto, a George Fox alumnus originally from California who has taught high school Spanish for the past three years. He has also been a missionary in Honduras, the United Kingdom and Kenya. Join us at 10:50 a.m. in Bauman Auditorium.

On Wednesday night at 7 p.m., Jamie Johnson will speak in Vespers on Romans 16.
