The Office for Spiritual and Intercultural Life is looking for leaders for next semester’s Lent (Spring) Life Groups. Life Groups begin the week of Feb. 12 and culminate the week of March 19 (six weeks). Leaders may host Life Groups on campus, at a nearby coffee shop or in their homes.

Take your bike home over holiday breaks

Now that the sun has gone south for the winter, and your bike is getting wet and rusty on the bike racks, it might be a good idea to take it back home next week!

Students: If you are still using your bike, then please move it to your dorm room during Thanksgiving break and also over Christmas break to prevent it from being a potential target for thieves. And as always, put the thickest U-lock on it that you can afford and NEVER leave it unlocked!

College of Business dean candidate presents lecture tomorrow

Faculty, students and staff are invited to hear Brian Strow present on “George Fox University’s College of Business in the Next Five Years” tomorrow (Tuesday) from 11 a.m. to noon in Hoover 105.

Strow is a candidate for the position of dean of the College of Business. He has a doctorate in American economic history, public finance and international political economy from Vanderbilt University, and is a professor of economics at Western Kentucky University and director of the WKU Center for the Study of Capitalism.

Vehicle registration change takes effect for adjunct professors

Adjunct professors: The bad news is your current parking permit is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2016; the good news is, if you will be on contract for spring 2017, we’ll be switching you to a staff permit that doesn’t expire!

In order to make this switch happen, you will need to come to the security office before Jan. 7. We will review your vehicles that are registered before issuing your new permit, so if you have vehicle updates, please bring your DMV registration slip to the office.

Fred Gregory shares on ‘Saint John’s Bible’ today in MLRC

Fred Gregory will conduct a “Turning of the Page” session today (Friday) on Volume 1 of The Saint John’s Bible (Pentateuch). Come and “see the Word” as the biblical message comes to life in this historic illuminated Bible.

The session runs from 4 to 4:30 p.m. in the MLRC.

Anderson and Macy present on ‘Saint John’s Bible’ Dec. 1

The university community is invited to a free public lecture and viewing of The Saint John’s Bible on Thursday, Dec. 1, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Hoover 105.

Leading the presentation will be Howard Macy, emeritus professor of religion and biblical studies, and Paul Anderson, professor of biblical and Quaker studies. They will present “Seeing the Word of God – The Illuminative Impact of The Saint John’s Bible,” in which they will explore the most compelling of 160 new artistic masterpieces in the first illuminated Bible produced by the Benedictine Order in 500 years.

Professors Macy and Anderson will expand on “seeing the Word of God,” followed by a firsthand viewing of Volume 1, Pentateuch.

William Penn program students host mystery movie night tonight

Tonight (Friday) in the Foxhole at 7 p.m., the William Penn Honors Program student government group will host a movie night. There will be tasty snacks, like caramel popcorn and root beer floats!

After the movie is over, we will chill and have a short discussion. We will be watching a movie called … Shhh! It’s a secret! Come to find out.

Boxes set up on campus for donations to Portland-area refugees

A relief effort for refugees in the Portland area begins this week!

The Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon is accepting a variety of items to distribute to Muslim families in need. It is our duty to help provide relief for those in need and welcome these people to our country in any way possible. Items needed include:

  • Lamps
  • Dishes, pots, pans and silverware
  • Toiletries (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, towels, etc.)
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Bed linens, warm blankets, pillows
  • Diapers

All of these items can be dropped off either at the SpIL House or in one of the labeled boxes in the Canyon Commons. Any contributions that can be made are greatly appreciated!
