Donations needed for those experiencing homelessness

The Social Work Club is collecting donations for those experiencing homelessness and poverty. The following food items are needed and will go toward both breakfast and lunch kits at Love INC here in Newberg:

  • Soup with pop-top
  • Cup of noodles
  • Microwave mac n’ cheese
  • Protein bars
  • Crackers with peanut butter or cheese
  • Packs of nuts, fruit or applesauce cups
  • 100 percent juice boxes/pouches
  • Hot chocolate pouches

Additionally, the following items are needed for Home PDX, which works to build relationships with the homeless community in downtown Portland:

  • Gloves
  • Hats
  • Scarves
  • Sleeping bags
  • Flashlight
  • Backpacks
  • Tents
  • Shoes
  • Foot powder

  • Wednesday, Nov. 23: Dinner, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 24: Brunch, 10:30-11 a.m.; dinner, 4-4:30 p.m.
  • Friday/Saturday, Nov. 25-26: Brunch, 10:30-11 a.m.; dinner, 5-5:45 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 27: Brunch, 10:30-11 a.m.; dinner, 5-7 p.m.

Bon Appetit serving Thanksgiving dinner tonight

Come join us in Canyon Commons tonight (Tuesday) and enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We’ll be serving roasted turkey and ham along with classic side dishes, salads and an assortment of holiday desserts.

Dinner will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and the cash price at the door will be $12 for adults and $10 for children.

College of Business dean candidate speaks today in Hoover 105

Faculty, students and staff are invited to hear Brian Strow present on “George Fox University’s College of Business in the Next Five Years” today (Tuesday) from 11 a.m. to noon in Hoover 105.

Strow is a candidate for the position of dean of the College of Business. He has a doctorate in American economic history, public finance and international political economy from Vanderbilt University, and is a professor of economics at Western Kentucky University and director of the WKU Center for the Study of Capitalism.

Pick up your lost and found items before Thanksgiving

The lost and found is stuffed already with items like water bottles, coffee mugs, an insulin pump, earbuds, jackets, hats and scarves, textbooks, notebooks, eyeglasses, jewelry, lunch bags, etc., so stop by the security office before Thanksgiving to be reunited with your misplaced items!

Take your bike home over holiday breaks

Now that the sun has gone south for the winter, and your bike is getting wet and rusty on the bike racks, it might be a good idea to take it back home next week!

Students: If you are still using your bike, then please move it to your dorm room during Thanksgiving break and also over Christmas break to prevent it from being a potential target for thieves. And as always, put the thickest U-lock on it that you can afford and NEVER leave it unlocked!
