The George Fox theatre department opens Ellen McLaughlin’s drama Tongue of a Bird on Thursday. Come join us for this thought-provoking show (note: the production does have mature themes).

Student tickets are free both Thursdays, Jan. 25 and Feb. 1. Bring your student ID to the door. Employees are provided with one complimentary ticket for any of the shows.

The show runs in Wood-Mar Auditorium Jan. 25-27 and Feb. 1-3 at 7:30 p.m., and will also include a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Feb. 4 . Reserve your seat online and bring your George Fox ID with you to show at the door. The George Fox University Jazz Ensemble, in collaboration with Bravo! Concerts Northwest, will perform classic big band swing music in a concert series this weekend. The series begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, in Bauman Auditorium, featuring guest artist Michael Kissinger on clarinet. Admission is free.

The concert series also includes a 7:30 p.m. concert on Saturday, Jan. 27,  at the Madeleine Church (3123 N.E. 24th Ave., in Portland), and a 3:30 p.m. performance on Sunday, Jan. 28, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church (426 E. 4th Plain Blvd., in Vancouver). Tickets for the Portland and Vancouver concerts are available at bravoconcerts.com. Students 18 and younger are free at the Portland and Vancouver concerts with a paid adult.

Calling all designers and artists interested in what it’s like in a professional art setting! The Bureau of Betterment will be represented at this Art Talk tonight (Monday) at the Chehalem Cultural Center (415 E. Sheridan St.). Join us for this free presentation from 6 to 7 p.m.

The Bureau of Betterment is the design studio of Mette Hornung Rankin. This will be an opportunity to listen in on a discussion about their practice in branding, packaging, typography and illustration. All are welcome, and food and drink will be available.
