Romaine lettuce recall info

Monday, January 8th, 2018

As you may have heard on the national news over the weekend, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration are currently investigating a U.S. foodborne outbreak of pathogenic E. coli that has been implicated with romaine lettuce, although the specific supply source has not yet been determined.

In the U.S. there have been 17 confirmed cases of E. coli infection across 13 states, with numerous hospitalizations and two deaths associated with the consumption of romaine lettuce.

As a precautionary measure and due to safety concerns, Bon Appetit has temporarily stopped serving romaine lettuce throughout the George Fox campus. Thank you for your understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Contact Denny Lawrence (dlawrenc@georgefox.edu) with any questions.

FoxTALE start-of-semeter reminders

Sunday, January 7th, 2018

FoxTALE was updated over the Christmas break, and you will see some changes when you first log into FoxTALE to see your list of courses. View this video for an overview: FoxTALE Course Overview.

Visit the FoxTALE for Faculty webpage for guides and resources and to learn more about the new features added.

Use your new, empty Spring 2018 sites as the sites in which you will teach. You may import content from another course site. See the instructions here for importing.

You may need to add sections to your course home page. This video shows you how: Manage Course Sections.

Your Spring 2018 sites are hidden to students. When you are ready to make a site available, from the course home page:

  • Go to Administration> Course administration > Edit settings
  • Scroll down to the “Visible” section and change “Hide” to “Show”
  • Just below the Visible setting is the Course start date where you can make changes if needed.
  • “Save changes” at the bottom

Remember that all students enrolled in your class in MyGFU will automatically be enrolled in your FoxTALE course site. As students add and drop your course in MyGFU, they will be added or removed automatically from your FoxTALE site.

Metacourses may be used in special cases where you want to use one FoxTALE site for multiple sections of the same class. If you would like to use a metacourse, contact the Service Desk for assistance with setting them up.
