Child actors needed for senior thesis film shoot Saturday

Plan to get your flu shot Nov. 8 or Nov. 15

The Health and Counseling Center will be joining forces with the School of Nursing for two flu shot clinics on campus.

Get your flu shot for $20 (free for students on PacificSource student insurance plan) on either Thursday, Nov. 8, or Thursday, Nov. 15, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Nov. 8 session will be in Canyon Commons; the Nov. 15 clinic will be in Roberts 117.

Nursing students will administer the vaccinations while under the direct supervision of nursing faculty as well as the university’s school nurse. Come support our nursing students!

Listen to guest physical therapy doctor speak on exercise and chronic disease

The School of Physical Therapy is excited to host Dr. Kim E. Eppen, physical therapist and clinical specialist at the University of Iowa, on from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Canyon Commons 101.

Dr. Eppen will present the topic “Exercise Prescription in Chronic Disease.” The primary objectives for this lecture are to identify the relationship between inactivity and chronic disease, discuss physical activity guidelines for “general health benefits,” and discuss the role of physicians and other healthcare providers in assessing and prescribing physical activity/exercise for prevention and/or management of chronic disease.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this free event. Light refreshments will be served.

Adam Puckett speaks at Legacy League luncheon on Nov. 2

George Fox Athletics Director Adam Puckett will be a special guest at a Legacy League (formerly George Fox Auxiliary) luncheon at noon on Friday, Nov. 2, in the Canyon Commons dining hall.

Puckett will speak primarily on the mission statement of the school’s athletics department: “To provide a competitive experience that breeds athletic excellence, academic success and Christ-like character.”

“I will discuss why we believe each to be important and how it fits into the mission of the university, what it means to us as a department, and what intentional efforts we are making to create a culture that honors the mission,” Puckett said.

Reservations are required, with $10 payable at the door. Reservations, with a deadline of Oct. 30, may be made by calling Connie Magee at 503-927-5011.

With the addition of swimming this year, George Fox now has 477 student-athletes in 21 sponsored sports. Eighty of those students compete in two different sports, something not common in Division I schools.

The George Fox theatre department continues its fall comedy The Government Inspector this week. Come join us for a tale of mistaken identity, chaos and hilarity (note: the production does have mature themes).

Commuter Life is hiring a commuter assistant who will focus on large-event programming for the spring 2019 semester. Children’s auditions for ‘Jane Eyre’ set for tomorrow night

The theatre department’s winter musical, Jane Eyre, has roles for six girls between the ages of 10 and 16. If you have a child who loves to act and sing and is interested in being a part of Jane Eyre this February, we would love to have her audition for us.

Prepare and memorize one minute from a musical
We will also have her read pieces of the script with a college actor.

Rehearsal hours are Monday through Friday from 7 to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. However, we will schedule young actor rehearsals early in the evening and will only call actors to rehearsals where they are needed.

Fall semester rehearsals begin Saturday, Nov. 3, and end Saturday, Dec. 1. Spring semester rehearsals begin Monday, Jan. 14. Show dates are Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 and Feb. 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 1 and Feb. 10 at 2 p.m.

Come hear beauty of Bauman’s organ at upcoming concert Oct. 28

Traditional church music, including beloved hymns, will fill the university’s Bauman Auditorium for its annual Oregon Hymn Festival Concert at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28.

Highlighting the program will be noted organist Dan Miller, a featured organist for concerts at St. John the Divine Church in New York City, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the International Music Trade Show in Frankfurt, Germany. He will be at the Rodgers Digital Organ keyboards, an upgrade on the auditorium’s original 36-rank Balcom and Vaughn pipe organ system with 2,067 pipes that are the permanent backdrop for the auditorium’s stage.

General admission tickets are $5 and are available at georgefox.edu/concerts, through the university’s box office by calling 503-554-3844, and at the door. The event is being sponsored by the newly named Legacy League of George Fox, formerly the George Fox Auxiliary. Proceeds will go toward the Legacy League’s endowed scholarship fund for students.

The 18-part music department program will include six selected hymns that the audience will be encouraged to join in singing. The program includes several hymn stories featuring Brent Weaver, professor of music and music department chair at George Fox.

The program also will include a string sextet, a four-member keyboard ensemble and an eight-member brass ensemble, all featuring George Fox students.

The Intercultural Resource Center is hosting the third annual Voices Conference in Bauman Auditorium and various Canyon Commons rooms. The conference will run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This multicultural leadership conference is open to people from all backgrounds and cultures. Our vision is to create space for students, faculty, staff and community members to engage in meaningful conversations about being multicultural leaders in an increasingly diverse society.

Well-known leaders and speakers Leroy and Donna Barber and Alexia Salvatierra will be leading workshops and discussions regarding social justice, leadership and diversity. There will be elective chapel credit offered for students.
