Wednesday, January 8th, 2020

All George Fox employees and students are invited to the university’s first Interprofessional Primary Care Institute open house and continuing medical education event on Saturday, Jan. 18, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Hoover 105.

The gathering is most appropriate for healthcare professionals and advanced students in healthcare-related fields. George Fox attendees will receive free registration by selecting the “$0 IPCI Director” box upon registering at this link. All must register to attend.

Presenting will be Dr. Bruce Arroll, a distinguished New Zealand family physician, researcher and faculty member, who will share on “The First Consultation for Depression in Primary Care: ‘Talk First, Prescribe Later & Diagnose Rarely.'” He is the coauthor of a Cochrane collaboration review of antidepressant effectiveness in primary care and a Focused Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (FACT) expert practitioner.

Arroll will discuss information from the FDA that shows the placebo-antidepressant difference for differing levels of depression severity. He will demonstrate how he utilizes FACT in his family practice to better support people who have depression.

Joining him will be Dr. Patricia Robinson, a psychologist and cofounder of both FACT and the Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) model, a  strategic method to integrate behavioral health clinicians in primary care teams that has received widespread implementation success throughout the U.S. and abroad.

The presentation will be followed by an innovative experiential learning event by the interprofessional team of the IPC Institute.

Important parking info as spring semester begins

Tuesday, January 7th, 2020

We have made some changes to the parking areas for the spring term that will mostly affect graduate students and Resident East students.

Many of the students in Hobson, Sutton and Macy will be affected. Resident East parking will be available in the lot east of Lewis, along Macy and the back of HMS. The gravel area is also available for Resident East parking.

Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 13, the parking spaces south of the physical therapy entrance will now be designated “Graduate Parking.” These are the spots along the Lewis/Hadlock row that were previously Resident East. Also, the lot east of Lewis is still a shared “Graduate/Resident East” lot.

The North Street parking lot has also been divided a bit and will have some shared “Graduate/Resident East” parking.

The parking map has been updated to show the changes and can be viewed online.
