Fire systems testing scheduled this week in campus buildings

Monday, May 25th, 2020

The campus fire sprinkler system will be tested today (Tuesday) through Friday, May 29. Buildings affected are EHS, Stevens, Hadlock, Hoover, the Roberts Center, and the Wheeler Sports Center.

Every sprinkler head in the building will be inspected, and a flow test will occur. When the flow test runs, the fire alarm will sound. The alarm may sound several times during the day, but will not alert the fire department.

The testing is scheduled over the entire week, but the time will be divided among the buildings listed (so it won’t take the entire week to test one building). The final schedule is determined by the inspector and has not been released to the university. Some buildings may take longer to inspect than others, so we thank you in advance for your patience.

Contact Dixie Downey (ddowney@georgefox.edu) with any questions.

Be aware of new Title IX regulations

Thursday, May 21st, 2020

The Department of Education recently released the final regulations for implementing protections of equal access to education under Title IX of the Higher Education Act of 1972. As federal laws, these regulations govern how institutions are required to respond to sexual assault and other forms of sexual harassment. These regulations are effective as of Aug. 14, 2020.

These regulations are significant, and we are carefully reviewing them over the coming weeks to determine what adjustments we need to make to our current policies and/or our processes for addressing reports of sexual assault and harassment.

The state of Oregon also has relevant legislation, and we need to consider how the federal and state regulations interact with one another. We will be certain to inform our community of any changes we need to make as a result of these new laws.

We recognize that many members of our community have been deeply impacted by sexual assault. It is important that you know that our commitment to preventing sexual assault, supporting those who report experiencing harm, and conducting fair, transparent and safe grievance processes for all parties continues to be a top priority for us. We remain steadfastly focused on continuing to build a supportive, safe and welcoming environment where everyone can learn, work and thrive.

If you have experienced sexual harassment or sexual assault, you are encouraged to connect to the resources at our institution or elsewhere that can best support you. Much of this information is on our website at georgefox.edu/titleix. We also have added a new video resource specific to George Fox on our Title IX website’s home page that addresses some common questions.

Our Title IX team’s contact information is on the Title IX website under “staff.” Please contact the Office of Student Life (studentlife@georgefox.edu) if you have any questions or concerns.

Please be mindful of Finance deadlines

Sunday, May 17th, 2020

Following are important deadlines from the Finance office.

Deposits
End-of-the-fiscal-year deposits to be included in this year’s budget must be in Finance no later than June 28, 2020. Checks dated prior to June 30 must be deposited in the current fiscal year. Please look around your desks and file cabinets to see if there are any lingering items that need to go to the bank. If you are taking vacation during the July 4 holiday, please send your deposits over BEFORE you leave.

Petty Cash
Please submit all petty cash reconciliations to the Finance department by today (Monday, May 18). Remember to submit all receipts, cash and reconciliation reports before this deadline.

Purchase Orders
The end of the fiscal year is approaching, and with that we would like to inform you of a few requirements for year-end purchases. First and foremost, please refer to the recently posted Purchasing Policy. Please remember that if you order goods and services, they need to be physically received/completed by June 30, 2020.

Goods and services received after June 30, 2020, will be charged to the 2020 student year. Therefore, all Purchase Requisitions/POs for this fiscal year need to be entered by May 29, 2020.

George Fox Visa cards can be used until June 1, 2020. Concur Expense Reports and Visa Reports for 2019-20 must be submitted by June 30. Any reports created and submitted after July 1 will be reflected in the 2020-21 budget.

To ensure a clean cut-off between FY2019-20 and FY20-21 spending, the last day to use your university Visa card for FY20 purchases is Monday, June 1, 2020. Please refrain from using your card for any purchases after this date.

Moms invited to join networking group

Sunday, May 17th, 2020

Three times a year George Fox employees who are mothers of young children, and/or mothers-to-be, gather for a networking brown-bag lunch.  For this final gathering of the 2019-20 year, we will convene via Zoom for discussion about the integrated experience of profession and parenting brought together by the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders.

If you are a mother or mother-to-be, and would like to be added to the group invites both now and in the future, send an email to University Pastor Jamie Noling-Auth at jnolingauth@georgefox.edu.

We will meet on Wednesday, May 27, from 1 to 2 p.m.
