Look for yellow-lidded bins when recycling

Tuesday, December 10th, 2019

In order to eliminate confusion, Waste Management is changing the lids of recycling bins to a bright yellow to further distinguish recycling bins from trash bins. Please take your comingled recycling to a bin with a yellow lid and avoid dumping trash in the yellow-lidded bins.

In addition, if you have not already received an indoor recycling bin, our team is distributing the indoor blue recycling containers for office and dorm room use. Please use those bins for your comingled recycling and not for trash. It is very important to keep garbage out of the recycling bins.

For more recycling information, visit this webpage. Thank you for helping to conserve resources!

Airport shuttles available

Monday, December 9th, 2019

George Fox is once again partnering with Hillsboro Airporter to provide a shuttle service to Portland International Airport for the semester break.

Students will be expected to work directly with Hillsboro Airporter to reserve their spot. See the details below:

  • The cost for one passenger is $65 plus a tip. Each additional passenger is $3.
  • Each shuttle can fit five to six passengers. The cost per student is based on the total number of passengers during the scheduled times, so if you can fill one shuttle with six passengers, the cost per student could be as low as $15.
  • If you make your reservations more than 24 hours in advance, Hillsboro Airporter can group you together. To reserve your spot, click here.
  • Hillsboro Airporter accepts cash or credit card for payment. Parents can call Hillsboro Airporter with a credit card to pay for their student’s fare.
  • Hillsboro Airporter has 24/7 service. It will work with students and their families to put students together to lower the cost of the fare.

Faculty: Please let your students know about this service.

End-of-term FoxTALE reminders for faculty

Monday, December 9th, 2019

As the semester closes, Library Digital Learning has a few reminders for faculty:

  • You will want to keep an archive of the gradebooks for all of the courses you have taught for the past five years. If you used the FoxTALE gradebook in your 2019 Fall course sites, you can export each gradebook into a spreadsheet that can be saved outside of FoxTALE. The guide, Downloading the Gradebook, includes a video demonstration on the process.
  • You will want to use your new 2020 spring course sites to teach your spring semester courses, since students are automatically enrolling in these sites. If you would like to import content from another course site, the guide, Importing Course Content, includes a video demonstration and step-by-step instructions.
  • 2020 spring sites are currently hidden from students. When you are ready, you can give students access to your courses. The guide, Making the Course Visible, demonstrates how to make a course available.
  • You may need to adjust the course start and end dates in each of your course sites. This will assure that your courses are listed correctly in the Dashboard (e.g., courses move from “Future” tab to “In Progress” tab on Jan. 13). The guide, Adjusting Course Start and End Dates, demonstrates how to make this adjustment. Note: Adjusting the Course Start Date does not make the course accessible to students. Only the setting, Course Visibility, enables students to enter the course.

As we move into the season of inclement weather, you are invited to join us in a web conference to share ideas on conducting class sessions using  Zoom web conferencing. Check Digital Learning Upcoming Events for dates and how to join sessions.

You will find additional guides at Digital Learning. You can contact digitallearning@georgefox.edu for support.
