Make sure to register for or update your parking permit

Sunday, August 30th, 2020

All vehicles brought to George Fox University or the surrounding neighborhoods must be registered with Campus Public Safety within one week of campus activity.

New employees can register for their first parking permit for free. Changes to a vehicle or license plate will require an update of your vehicle registration information. To update your vehicle registration information, email Elrike Shaw in Campus Public Safety at eshaw@georgefox.edu. An additional permit can be purchased for $5 in cash.

Full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff will be issued a gold hang tag permit. Permits must be displayed from the inside rear view mirror and must be visible to Campus Public Safety staff.

Adjuncts who are coaching assistants, teaching assistants, and current undergraduate students are required to register their vehicles as students and park in the designated areas as assigned by their student permit.

Change to credit card policy

Sunday, August 30th, 2020

Effective Sep. 1, purchase orders will not be required for credit card purchases. All other spending guidelines remain in effect and will be closely monitored for compliance. Thank you all for your continued efforts to carefully evaluate all spending.

Purchasing and Finance are currently working on updated credit card policies and procedures that will result in fewer cards issued and cards identified for more specific uses. Once implemented, these changes are expected to continue to simplify the purchasing process.

Be sure to send John Heitz a note of thanks

Thursday, August 27th, 2020

After 24 years of service at George Fox, John Heitz is retiring at the end of August. John has served the university in plant services’ building repair department, and more recently as planner/estimator for plant services projects.

Students will remember him best by his startling demonstration on why undamaged window screens are important. Some staff may remember him best by his willingness to chase out unwanted animal residents. Serving 24 years means that there are so many great stories!

In lieu of a campus event, we would like to bless John with cards and letters. If you could take a moment to write him a note (or recall a favorite memory), please send those to Box 6449. Thank you!

Plan to attend Paul Chamberlain’s retirement celebration

The celebration will be held in the amphitheater from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 18.

Please avoid dumping garbage in recycling bins

Wednesday, August 26th, 2020

The sunny yellow lids on the bins in the outside enclosures are for recycling only. Please avoid dumping garbage in the recycling bins because it contaminates the entire bin. If trash has been mixed into the recycling, the entire bin must be taken to the landfill.

The recycling bins are a commingled service, so recyclables can be mixed together. View the full list of what can be recycled.

Recycling not only reduces the use of raw resources, it also reduces what is taken to landfills and saves the university money in garbage fees. Thank you for making a positive impact on our world!

Wellness Wednesday: Aug. 26

Tuesday, August 25th, 2020

Many of us are beginning to look back on and process everything that has been happening since March. Our minds need to interpret it, digest it and make some sense of it.

We encourage you to read real-life stories of “hope, resilience and inspiration during the coronavirus pandemic” from around the world posted on the American Psychological Association website. It is refreshing and inspiring to see other perspectives and connect with others in that way.

What is your personal story? Write it out, wrestle with it, put it in words. Consider sharing it with your loved ones or peers. Let’s inspire and support each other. Let’s move our focus away from the daily feed of trauma and conflict and bring the positive, the difficult, the complex, the personal and the real to light.

Be sure to send John Heitz a note of thanks

On-campus dining guide for Newberg employees

Sunday, August 23rd, 2020

Following is info on employee dining on campus this semester …

  • Due to the state’s restriction of no more than 100 people in restaurants at one time, you may have noticed that we’ve set up a variety of spaces around Canyon Commons for students to sit and eat. Until further notice, we ask that employees do not eat in Canyon Commons to be sure there is space for both residential and commuter students to eat at meal times.
  • Employees may still order food to go through Bon Appetit using their app (more info on this soon). Lunch Club cards are not being sold to employees this year, but you may use any remaining punches you have to visit the servery. If you do, please take the food to go.
  • The Bruin Den and Bruin Bites will both be closed, but Bridge Cafe remains open for grab-and-go food.
  • When in Canyon Commons, please follow all instructions posted and keep your face covering on.
  • There is a dining area set up on the tennis courts that employees are welcome to use if desired.

Thank you for your understanding. Questions? Contact COT@georgefox.edu.
