No heat in Ross or Bauman this week due to technical problems

Monday, November 9th, 2020

If you have a class in Ross or Bauman, be advised that there will be no heat in the buildings this week. A part failed on Friday, Nov. 6 that affects the heating system.

The part has been ordered but is shipping from the east coast. The repair will be coordinated with an outside vendor, so we do not anticipate heat in the buildings until early next week. Please bundle up if you are in these buildings.

Scheduled tree pruning this week on the quad

Monday, November 9th, 2020

We will be pruning the trees on the quad all day on both Tuesday, Nov. 10, and Wednesday, Nov. 11. Proper pruning assists each tree to grow in a configuration that is most ideal for the best structural integrity of the tree.

Maintaining the trees’ structure helps to mitigate the risks of broken limbs and falling branches. Areas around the trees will be marked off; for your safety, we ask that you do not walk within those areas.

Those who fill out the form will have a chance to win the following prizes:

  • First place (our favorite story): $100 Amazon gift card
  • Second place: $50 Amazon gift card
  • Third through fifth place: $25 Chapters gift card
  • Sixth through 10th place: Your choice of a Pennington teddy bear or George Fox playing cards

Our favorite five stories will also be featured in the new Bruin Bound magazine, and all stories will be featured on the @georgefoxuniversity Instagram page!

Attend virtual discussion: ‘The Academic Vocation in a Post-2020 World: An Ecumenical Dialogue’

Sunday, November 8th, 2020

Sue O’Donnell, the campus representative to the board for the Christian Scholar’s Review, invites anyone who is interested to the following panel discussion. As you may know, George Fox is one of CSR’s most consistent sponsors, which makes this discussion relevant to our community.

The event is available at no charge. In the interest of security, participants need to register here. Shortly after doing so, registrants will receive a link for the event. For security reasons, the organizers ask that people register and then use the link they receive.

Panel members will consider questions such as:

  • Will 2020 be the beginning of a tipping point for Christ-centered higher education?
  • How will our institutions align their organizational callings with the vocational calling that faculty believe that they have received in this environment?
  • What has 2020 taught us to hold onto and what must be transformed for institutions to survive with their mission intact?
  • Following a 55-minute discussion, audience members will also have the chance to pose questions.

Want to give this holiday season? Donate to Pajama Drive

Sunday, November 8th, 2020

Aren’t new PJs just wonderful during the holidays? We think so, and we’re working with United Way, during their annual Pajama Drive, to provide over 1,600 local children and families in crisis with a new pair of jammies. It seems like such a small thing, but sometimes the comfort of a small gift can make a big difference.

Now through Nov. 30, you can drop off your donation at the food bank in Roberts 109. Or, mail your donation to campus box 6148.

If you have any questions, please contact Jere Witherspoon (bruincommunitypantry@georgefox.edu).
