Come support artists from the George Fox community at the First Friday pop-up art sale this Friday, May 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. on the porch at 700 E. Sheridan St.

The university’s own Jillian Sokso, Tim Timmerman and Jennifer Loop will be among those showcasing their work. There will be stickers, prints, works on paper, paintings, ceramics and more from several artists. Please stop by and shop some local art!

The Office for Spiritual Life invites all members of our community to participate in our 2021 senior commissioning service (Baccalaureate) by following this link. 

You will hear music performed by the University Choir (directed by Danielle Warner), and words of encouragement spoken by ASC President Meredith Green and fellow graduates Vicky Fuentes Sotelo and Satoshi Seth.

Also included is a segment featuring graduates Daria Brandt, Julio Lopez-Hernandez, Meghan Donohue and Joshua Ishimwe. Please join us for one final worship service featuring our seniors!

Inaugural Maker Camp open to high schoolers this summer

The George Fox College of Engineering invites high school students ages 16  to 18 to join us for our inaugural high school Maker Camp July 12-16!

If you know a high school student who loves hands-on projects, figuring out how things work, and exploring the latest technologies in making, send them this link to register for Maker Camp 2021.

Participants will expand their skills with 3-D modeling and printing, automation, computer programming and design as they work alongside George Fox engineering students and faculty to create their own custom engineering devices, utilize industry tools and equipment, and make new friends.

We will take time each day to engage in spiritual reflection, build relationships, and enjoy the beautiful George Fox campus. Maker Camp participants will hear from industry professionals about ways engineering intersects with their walk with Christ and why, as a Christian, they love being in the field of engineering.

Carlton Way closed today; be sure to clear parking lots impacted by commencement

Carlton Way will not be accessible to through traffic on Saturday and Sunday, as it will be used for the commencement route. All parking lots, with the exception of the Le Shana lot, will be used during commencement.

Students who are moving out of Pennington, Edwards and Weesner Village must vacate their parking spots by 9:30 a.m. today (Saturday). The drive-through commencement will be going directly through those areas all day until 7 p.m. on Saturday night. Those who have not vacated those parking areas might be trapped until commencement is over. Please plan accordingly.

Bridge Café is open over the summer

If you are going to be on campus this summer, Bon Appetit wants to let you know that the Bridge Café will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, with lunch on the patio from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We feature a wood-fired mesquite grill, taqueria and hand-tossed pizza, as well as a full coffee shop proudly serving Caravan Coffee. Come check us out and say hi. Cash, credit, debit and department charge only, please.

Hadlock will be closed over commencement weekend

The Hadlock Student Center will be closed during commencement weekend. Summer hours (6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday) will begin on Monday, May 3, and extend through Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Hadlock will be closed Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer, as well as Memorial Day.

Plan ahead for Richter Scholars’ proposals

We will put out a call for Richter Scholars’ proposals in early fall for summer 2022 research projects. Students, you may want to talk to a faculty mentor before the semester ends so you can beginning planning. Faculty, you may also want to connect with a potential research student before the semester ends or over the summer.

The Richter Scholars program at George Fox distributes funds to support student research activities that are devised, initiated and carried out by individual student researchers, with mentorship, guidance and expertise provided by a faculty mentor.

The purpose of these funds is to support educational research opportunities that encourage the practices of independent thought, leading to independent achievement and personal responsibility.

For the purpose of this program, research is defined as a knowledge-generating activity that is designed to provide new information on a topic, tool, or process, and that proceeds according to established and accepted research methods.

Three free classes will be offered:

  • Nutrition: Monday, May 17, from 6 to 7 p.m.
  • Spine Care: Tuesday, May 18, from 6 to 7 p.m.
  • Exercise: Wednesday, May 19, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Support DPT service trip to Africa at car wash this Sunday

Come by the Roberts/Hadlock parking lot this Sunday, May 2, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to get your car washed. Proceeds will support DPT students’ service trip to Uganda, Africa, this June!

We will also be serving lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is no charge for the car wash or lunch, but we hope you’ll consider a donation of any amount to help make our trip possible (suggested donation of $10).

Join all-employee meeting via Zoom May 6, then enjoy an ice cream bar

The next all-employee meeting is set from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, via Zoom (a live Zoom link will be provided soon, so stay tuned!).

Following the meeting, we will be hosting an end-of-semester celebration with ice cream bars from 4:30 to 5 p.m. outside the Stevens Center. There will also be dairy-free and gluten-free options.

Last chance to pick up your free copy of ‘The Student Collective’

Pick up your free copy of George Fox’s yearbook, The Student Collective Volume VII, in Canyon Commons today (Thursday) or tomorrow. We’ll be distributing them from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., so swing by!

For those who had them sent to their mailbox, the mailroom will notify you when you can pick them up. At the latest, they must be picked up by Friday, April 30, at 4:30 p.m. Employees are also welcome to pick up a copy of the yearbook for their departments.
