Daniel Brunner (Seminary) was named a GreenFaith Fellow in September and will join the 2008 class of the GreenFaith Fellowship Program. The program is the first comprehensive education and training program in the country to prepare lay and ordained leaders from interfaith religious traditions for religiously based environmental leadership.

Debbie Cash (Financial Affairs) is the university’s first “Employee of the Month” recipient. Debbie was honored for her work with the PeopleSoft implementation. Winners of the award are honored with a reserved parking space.

Al Zimmerman (Planned Giving) was presented the 2008 Distinguished Service Award by the Northwest Planned Giving Roundtable during its annual Planned Giving Conference Sept. 23. He was honored for his demonstrated leadership and service to the public and the planned giving community, and in recognition of his mentoring members of the profession of planned giving.

Jim Steele (Management) conducted a concurrent workshop, “Change Resistance: Turning a Liability into an Asset,” at the Northwest Human Resource Management Association’s 70th annual conference and tradeshow in Kennewick, Wash., Sept. 16-18.

Ginny Birky’s (Education) research on high school reform, Spotlight on Success: What’s Working in Oregon High Schools?, was recently posted on the Oregon Department of Education website. The 10 documents highlight successful models and practices in Oregon high schools that are in the midst of change and innovation. The documents include an introduction to the project, scholarly summary of the research, and stories of what’s working in eight high schools.

Matt Meyer (Cinema and Media Communication) made two presentations in August at the University Film and Video Association conference in Colorado Springs, Colo. Matt presented “Your Students’ Films Sound Awful: Top Ten Ways to Improve Film Sound” and “Teaching Film Techniques to the Video Generation.” He also is editing and mixing sound for the feature film Magic Man this term.

Ed Higgins’ (Writing/Literature) poem “Daylight Savings” was published in a recent issue of the Christian literary journal relief (vol. 2, issue 3), a publication that features fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction pieces. Ed also had a tanka piece, “the big bang ever,” published in the August issue of scifakuest, an online literary quarterly.

Bruce Strom (School of Professional Studies) wrote a column, “Your small business is now profitable; what next?,” for the Sept. 23 issue of the Idaho Press-Tribune.

bontrager-kristin.jpgKristin Bontrager joined the math, engineering and computer science department to serve as an administrative assistant. During the past year, she has moved between Oregon and Tennessee, working as president and chef for The Mustard Seed Catering Company and as an office assistant and physical education teacher at C.S. Lewis Academy in Newberg. She was previously an administrator and physical education teacher at Willow Hall Academy in Franklin, Tenn., in 2006-07. Kristin earned a degree in medical assisting from Skadron College in San Bernadino, Calif., in 1994. She lives in Newberg with her children – Maddi, Jordan and Cameron – and attends Newberg Fellowship.


acker-amy.jpgAmy Ocker, employed as the university’s science outreach coordinator from 2001 to 2004, has returned to George Fox to serve in the same position. In the four years since she last worked on campus, Amy has been a science instructor at Westside Christian High School in Lake Oswego.  She also gained teaching experience at George Fox as an adjunct lab instructor for the biology department in the early 2000s. Amy earned both a bachelor’s degree (biology) and a master’s degree (MAT program) from George Fox. She lives in Dundee with husband Jared (an employee in IT), and they have an adopted daughter from India, Sunita Ruth. Amy attends 2nd Street Community Church in Newberg.


Erin Macy (Admissions) left the university to travel throughout Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, New Zealand and Africa with her husband, John. Their blog can be read at johnanderinmacy.com. They plan to travel for nine months and do some missions work during the trip.

Ed Higgins (Writing/Literature) wrote a review essay on the book Future Americas (John Helfers and Martin H. Greenberg, eds) in the Summer 2008 issue of Science Fiction Research Association Review.

Mark David Hall (Political Science) was one of five featured speakers at a conference on America’s forgotten founders at the University of Louisville Sept. 12-13. He spoke on Roger Sherman’s contributions to creation of the American republic, and he and Gary L. Gregg released the results of their national survey on America’s most important but neglected founders. The two have edited a book based on their survey entitled America’s Forgotten Founders.

Bruce Strom (School of Professional Studies) wrote a column, “Why would you start a business in a down economy,” for the Sept. 10 issue of the Idaho Press-Tribune.

She worked in the Santa Ana Unified School District in Santa Ana, Calif., from 1997 to 2007, teaching fifth grade for seven years and kindergarten for three. Kristi earned a master’s degree in education from Concordia University in 2002 and a bachelor’s degree in communication from Biola University in 1994. She lives in Redmond with her husband Tam and attends Sisters Community Church.


colantino-kim.jpgKim Colantino joins the writing/literature department to serve a one-year appointment as an assistant professor. She has worked the past four years as a composition and literature instructor at Chemeketa Community College and George Fox. Kim also has taught classes online through Oregon Coast Community College and gained teaching experience in the Newberg Public School system as a high school English instructor for home-schooled students. Kim earned a master’s degree in rhetoric and composition from Washington State University in 2001 and a bachelor’s degree in writing/literature from George Fox in 1999. She lives in Keizer with husband Jim and attends St. Edward in Keizer.

For the past year, she was the district curriculum director for the Wahluke School District in Mattawa, Wash., and since 2004, she was an elementary school principal for that district. In the early 2000s, she was an intermediate school reading coach and reading specialist at Saddle Mountain Intermediate School in Mattawa. Kristina earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Portland in 1994 and a bachelor’s degree in education from Western Montana College in 1991. She lives in Madras with husband Rick and children Maddie and Ricky.

An adjunct in the program since the spring of 2007, Anne also has worked as a substitute teacher in the Sherwood School District for the past seven years. Before that, she taught middle and high school in Robbinsdale, Minn., from 1992 to 1999 before choosing to stay home with her two sons, Matthew and Niklas. Anne earned a master’s degree in liberal studies from the University of Minnesota in 1998 and holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies/English literature from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif. She recently relocated to Bend with her husband, David, and two boys.



Burel Ford (Multicultural Services) left George Fox Sept. 1 to work as director of the Multicultural Student Center at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz. He had worked at the university for four years.

Eva-Lynn Johnson has resigned as science outreach coordinator and has moved out of the area.

He will use it to support travel for his research on “Beads of Power: Wampum and the Shaping of the Early American Frontier.” The award recognizes his work as campus advisor for Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society.

armstrong-ken.jpgThe School of Management welcomes Ken Armstrong as dean. He is the former dean of the College of Professional Studies at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. (1995-2003). The College of Professional Studies included the School of Business, School of Nursing, School of Education and Department of Computer Science. He also served as dean of the Falls School of Business from 1991 to 2003 and was instrumental in developing Anderson’s MBA and doctor of business programs. He most recently served as the Austin/Cooper Endowed Professor of Global Business Studies at Anderson. Prior to his appointment at Anderson, Ken worked for 18 years at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., as a professor and department and division chair. He began his teaching career in 1972 as an assistant professor of business at Olivet. Ken earned a PhD from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., specializing in strategic planning, in 1985. He also holds an MBA from Central Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Olivet Nazarene University. He and wife Audrey live in Tigard and have two grown daughters, Shelly and Rhonda.


dee-amy.jpgEducation has hired Amy Dee as an assistant professor in the MAT program. She arrived from Linfield College, where she taught in that school’s Department of Education since 2004. She most recently taught courses on teaching techniques and methods, content area literacy for middle and high schools, and an introduction to middle level and high school teaching. Amy is enrolled in George Fox’s Educational Foundations and Leadership program and has a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of San Francisco. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social science from San Jose State University. Amy lives in Beaverton with husband Andy and children Shaun and Taryn. They attend Valley Community Presbyterian.

A nurse with 25 years of experience in the profession, she has worked the past four years as a staff RN in obstetrics at Providence Newberg Medical Center. She worked previously at hospitals and clinics throughout the Portland area, including Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland (2002-04), The Children’s Clinic in Tualatin (2001-02), Legacy Meridian Park Hospital in Tualatin (1998 to 2002), and Willamette Falls Hospital in Oregon City (1993-98). Denise earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Washington State Intercollegiate College of Nursing in 2007 and an associate science degree in nursing from College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif., in 1985. She lives in Sherwood with husband Bill and children Lauren, Lindsey, and Emmett. She attends Countryside Community Church.

MAT program. He worked previously at Lewis & Clark College since 2004, where he was an adjunct instructor who taught courses on social justice, diversity, and cultural 
issues, a course on community development and social change, and lectured in a number of courses. He also has served as a doctoral resident and coordinator of multicultural education at Reed College in Portland since 2006. Daymond is currently earning a doctor of education degree from Lewis & Clark College. He earned a master’s degree in education from Lewis & Clark in 2003 and a bachelor’s degree in social science from Portland State University in 2002. He lives in Portland with wife Jody and two sons, ages 9 and eight months. He attends Walker Temple Church.


jones-kevin.jpgKevin T. Jones has been hired as an associate professor of organizational communication and director of forensics. He comes from Chapman University in Orange, Calif., where he was an assistant professor since 2001. He also taught at Asuza Pacific University from 1996 to 2001, serving as an associate professor and director of that school’s forensics program. He taught previously at Asbury College (1994-96), Bradley University (1993-94), and Otterbein College (1986-89). Kevin earned a doctorate in communication studies/rhetoric and public address from Louisiana State University in 1995. He holds a master’s degree in speech communication from California State University and a bachelor’s degree in communication from Biola University. He lives in Independence and attends the First Baptist Church of Independence.


amy-lutz.jpgEducation hired Amy Lutz as an assistant professor in the MAT program. Adjunct faculty since 2001, Amy spent the past year as cohort leader for the MAT at Night format. From 1999 to 2007, she was a teacher at Ninety-One School in the Canby School District, where she also coordinated a graphic design seminar for colleagues in the Canby School District since 2001. Previously, Amy worked as a design services manager for Portland-based Woloshin Communications Inc. from 1996 to 1998. She earned a master of arts in teaching degree from George Fox in 1999 and a bachelor’s degree in advertising/public relations from Grand Valley State University in Michigan in 1991. Amy lives in Newberg with her husband, Brendon Connelly, and sons Truman and Asher. The family attends North Valley Friends Church.

For the past three years, she has been the Washington County branch manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters, a community- and school-based mentoring program. She also worked for the organization as a bilingual enrollment specialist (2004-05) and before that was a home school consultant for Oregon’s Migrant Education Program. Jennifer earned a bachelor’s degree in international studies from Western Oregon University in 2000 and a master’s degree in public administration from Portland State University in 2004. She lives in Portland with husband Drew and attends Holy Trinity Church in Beaverton.

He’s worked since 1993 as the lead pastor and organizational architect of GraceChapel.com, a progressive multi-cultural church in Boise. He also has taught as an adjunct professor at George Fox’s Boise Center for the past three years, instructing in both grad and undergraduate courses. Christopher earned a PhD in education with an emphasis in adult education and organizational learning from the University of Idaho in 2006. He also holds master’s degrees in organizational leadership (George Fox) and Christian ministry (Northwest Nazarene University). He lives in Boise with his wife of 24 years, Mary, and they have three children – Luke, Megan, and Allison. He attends GraceChapel.com.


melendy-robert.jpgRobert F. Melendy joins the schools of education and of arts and sciences as an assistant professor of mathematics. Robert has taught collegiate-level mathematics and physics for nearly 11 years, most recently for the University of Phoenix on a part-time basis the past three years. Robert also has taught as an adjunct professor at George Fox since 2006. Previously, he taught for Heald College (1998 to 2006) and at Linn-Benton Community College in the late 1990s. Robert earned a doctorate in mathematics education from Oregon State University in 2008. He also holds master’s degrees from Oregon State in both electrical and computer engineering and in mechanical engineering. He lives in West Salem with wife Debbie and sister Adrienne, who is disabled. They attend West Salem Christian Church.

He comes from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio, where he was an assistant professor of political science and international studies since 2002. Before that, he taught in the Russian language for a year at Saratov State University in Russia, and for a semester at an Orthodox Jewish yeshiva, Touro College. He served for three years as an expert witness and researcher in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut in immigration asylum cases concerning the persecution of Jews, Baptists and Russian Orthodox in the nations of the former Soviet Union. Previously, he was an assistant registrar at the New York School of the Bible in New York City for two years. David earned a doctorate in political science from Columbia University in New York in 2007. He lives in Newberg.

She has taught nursing at Pioneer Pacific College in Wilsonville, Ore., since 2006 and before that was a respite care program volunteer and substitute coordinator for the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center. Previously, she was a care manager and health coordinator for a center for older adults in Winter Park, Fla., for three years and an instructor in nursing and health education for nurses at Florida Southern College in Orlando, Fla., in the mid-1990s. Deborah earned a master of science in nursing degree from the University of Illinois in 1978 and a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Michigan State University in 1973. She lives in Lake Oswego with her husband of 36 years, Gary. They have two adult married children, one college-age daughter, and three grandchildren. She attends Lake Grove Presbyterian Church.


nam-roger.jpgThe seminary has hired Roger Nam as an assistant professor. He taught previously at Fuller Theological Seminary since 2006. He also taught an undergraduate course on Jerusalem at UCLA in 2007 and has directed the UCLA Ugarit Visualization Project, a virtual reality 3D model of an ancient Bronze Age city. Roger worked previously as a pastor in Seoul, South Korea, from 1994-96 and as a financial analyst for Maxim Integrated Products from 1997 to 2000. He earned a doctorate in Near Eastern languages and cultures from UCLA in 2008. He also holds a master of divinity degree from the General Assembly Presbyterian Seminary in Seoul, and a master of theology degree in Old Testament and ancient Near Eastern studies from Fuller Theological Seminary. Roger lives in Lake Oswego with his wife, Samantha, and two boys, Jared and Asher.

She most recently worked as nursing program manager for Providence ElderPlace and as adjunct faculty at Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing. She has worked extensively in community and home health care settings, in direct patient care nursing, and in management, staff development, and quality improvement roles. She also has academic teaching experience as an adjunct faculty member at Clackamas Community College. Jerrie earned an associate degree in nursing from Lane Community College in 1975, a BS in nursing from OHSU in 1980, and an MS in community health nursing and leadership from the University of Portland in 2002. She lives in Portland and is the mother of two recent college graduates, Melissa and Jake. She attends EastHill Church in Gresham and hosts a biweekly care group in her home.

She taught in Concordia University’s nursing program last year and before that was a lead faculty member of Chemeketa Community College’s nursing department for a year. Ellen earned an EdD degree in higher education curriculum/instruction from Montana State University in 2007 and a master of nursing degree from the Montana State University College of Nursing in 1996. doty-trey.jpgTrey Doty was hired as director of seminary development in July. He arrives from the Arthur Lutz Foundation in Portland, where he oversaw grant strategy, donor management, and fund development as executive director from 2005 to 2007. Before that, he was the lead pastor of Christus Church in Portland from 2000 to 2004. Trey earned both a master’s and bachelor’s degree from George Fox, earning a BS in sociology in 1995 and an MDiv in 2000. He is also a recorded minister through the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends Church. He lives in Portland with wife Stephanie and two children, Haley (11) and Drew (7). He attends City’s Edge Community Church in Beaverton.


nakashimada_bonnie-web.jpgBonnie Nakashimada was hired as the director of regional sites last week. For the past five years she worked in Wilsonville as the director of church health for the Pacific Northwest District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination. She worked for the same organization as an executive assistant from 1999 to 2003, and before that Bonnie was an associate/youth pastor of the Portland Alliance Church for 16 years. Her position is a new one and will be responsible for overseeing the directors at the Portland, Salem, Boise, and Redmond sites. Bonnie earned a bachelor’s degree in religious education from Canadian Bible College in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 1982. She lives in Canby with her son Michal and daughter Alexa. They attend Canby Alliance Church.

A 2008 graduate of George Fox, she served as an intern in the university’s admissions office her senior year, helping plan events, conducting tours, and corresponding with prospective students. Before that, she was a co-director of a teens ministry program at Canyonview Camp in Silverton in 2005-06. Dot earned a bachelor’s degree in writing/literature. She lives in Newberg.

She was a secretary at Obsidian Middle School in Redmond from 2003 to 2006 and before that was a bookkeeper for a drywall business in Clackamas for six years in the early to mid-1990s while also being a stay-at-home mom. Erin earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Portland State University in 1982. She lives in Redmond with her husband of 26 years, Stephen, and their 17-year-old daughter Rachael. She attends City Center Foursquare in Redmond.

He has worked the past two summers as an on-site director of the Day Camp program at Tilikum Center for Retreats and Outdoor Ministries. He also worked as an office intern in the university’s admissions office from 2004 to 2006. Justin earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from George Fox in 2007. He lives in Aloha and attends St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Beaverton.

She worked previously as an administrative assistant for Coast Pavement Services of Tigard from 2005 to 2007. Before that, she spent a year as an administrative assistant for C.S. Lewis Academy High School in Newberg. She lives in Tualatin with her husband Jeff and 19-year-old twin sons Daniel and Scott. The family attends Living Hope Church in Portland.

He arrives from Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, where he was director of enrollment services and financial aid the past two years. His previous experience includes working as a sales and service trainer for a uniform and apparel company for one year in Sacramento, Calif. Before that, David spent four years as an outside sales rep and operations supervisor for an industrial service/supply company. David earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from Prairie Bible College in 2006 and is currently completing an MBA with Corban College and Graduate School. He and wife Kelly live in Caldwell, Idaho, and have two children, Ashlee and Nate.

For the past four years she was a manager at Newberg Hardware, and before that she worked in production for A-dec in Newberg for four years. A native of California, Tammi attended school in San Jose, Calif., before moving to Oregon. She lives in McMinnville.


angie-clarkson.jpgAngie Clarkson began work as an administrative assistant in the Murdock Learning Resource Center in July. She recently moved to the area from Pendleton, where she was an academic secretary for science, math, computer science, and athletics at Blue Mountain Community College since 2004. Before that, she was an office specialist for the Oregon Youth Authority, the state’s juvenile justice system, for two years. Angie attended George Fox in the late 1980s and later worked in Newberg at the Springbrook Clinic and Precision Helicopters Inc. She lives in Newberg with husband Chuck and has three children – Joel (19), Amanda (12), and Caleb (11).


A farewell reception for Carol Green (SPS) is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in the main lobby of the Portland Center. Carol is leaving to serve as vice president for the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. She had been dean of the School of Professional Studies since 2005.

Heidi Thomason (Student Financial Services) left George Fox in late July. She will now be in ministry full time with her church.

Sandy Cornell (Financial Affairs) left the university on July 23.

Richard (Dick) Sartwell has retired as director of the Friends Center. A new director will be announced soon.

Kris Nelson (Library) left George Fox on July 7. She will be teaching at a school in Indonesia.

John Nelson left his position with Mail Services on July 23.

At the seminary, Loren Kerns has been promoted to director of DMin programs, and Larry Shelton is now working as director of the local masters programs. Also, MaryKate Morse is working part time for the president’s office as director of strategic planning. Her title at the seminary is director of hybrid and master of arts in spiritual formation programs.

Mark Stone (Security) has moved from part-time status to full time as a security officer.

Paul Otto (History) was recently named a Fellow of the Holland Society of New York for his research on New Netherland and the Dutch experience in early America.

Paul Anderson’s (Religious Studies) essay, “Beyond the Shade of the Oak Tree: Recent Growth in Johannine Studies,” was published in the Expository Times 119:8 (2008). He also presented the paper “A Dynamic Christocentricity – The Heart of Friendly Faith and Practice” at the FAHE meetings at Woodbrooke College, England, in June, and “A Theology of Discernment” at the Leadership Institute for Group Discernment at George Fox in May. At the Pacific Northwest AAR/SBL/ASOR meetings at George Fox in May, he delivered the presidential address (“A Bi-Optic Hypothesis – A Theory of Interfluentiality between the Johannine and Markan Gospels”), while also presenting “John, Jesus, and History – A Reception Report” and a review of Watching a Biblical Narrative; Point of View in Biblical Exegesis by Gary Yamasaki.

Merrill Johnson (Library) co-led a session at the Snezek Library Leadership Institute at Abilene Christian University July 18. The title of the presentation was “A discussion of recent LibQual+ experiences and implications for library assessment and service.” The institute is an annual event for CCCU library directors.

Tom Head (Economics) had an article, “Review of The Real Wealth of Nations: Creating a Caring Economics by Riane Eisler,” published in the Spring 2008 issue of Faith & Economics.

allen-patrick-provost.jpgPatrick Allen, a chief academic officer at three universities over the last two decades, began as provost of George Fox on July 1. He most recently served as provost at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla., where he was responsible for all day-to-day campus operations since 2005. Before that, he worked 10 years as provost and chief academic officer at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. He also has served as vice president for academic affairs at Anderson University in Indiana and as dean of the School of Business and Lloyd Pickrell Distinguished Professor of Management at Friends University in Wichita, Kan. Patrick earned a doctorate in higher education from the University of Oklahoma and holds master’s degrees in management (Southern Nazarene University) and liberal arts (Southern Methodist University). He also earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Olivet Nazarene University. Patrick and his wife Lori have moved to Newberg.


samek-linda.jpgLinda Samek, provost of Corban College in Salem since 2006, returned to George Fox on July 1 to serve as dean of the School of Education. Before serving as provost, she worked at Corban as dean of education, director of teacher education, and professor of education and mathematics from 2002 to 2006. She worked previously as deputy director and coordinator of teacher education for the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission and was co-director of the Oregon University System’s Quality Assurance in Teaching Program. The hiring marks a return to George Fox for Linda, who taught at the university from 1996 to 2000 and was chair of the Department of Education from 1997 to 2000. In all, she has nearly 28 years of experience in higher education. Linda earned a bachelor’s degree in science education/mathematics from Oregon State, a master’s degree in math education from Portland State University, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Portland State. She lives in Sublimity with her husband Tom and attends Salem Alliance. The couple has two grown boys, Jeremiah and David.


cliff-berger.jpgCliff Berger, an adjunct academic advisor and instructor at the seminary since 2004, began work as a half-time online facilitator at the seminary in June. He also teaches general studies courses for the Oregon campus of the University of Phoenix and is a faculty member in the adult degree program at Warner Pacific College in Portland. He also teaches online classes for Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. Cliff earned a doctorate in Christian education from Emmanuel School of Religion in Tennessee in 2003, a master of divinity degree from the same school in 1983, and a bachelor’s degree from Northwest Christian College in 1980. He also studied marriage and family therapy at George Fox in the early 2000s. Cliff lives in Tigard with wife Cindy and attends Potter’s Hands Church in Tigard. The couple has two teenage children, Alex and Libbie.


wheeler-tim.jpgTim Wheeler was hired as a custodian at the end of June. Since July of 2006, he has been the operations manager of One Source Home Solutions of San Luis Obispo, Calif., a business that specializes in custom window covering, closet, and garage products. He also has worked as a pro shop assistant at Black Lake and Avila Beach Golf Resort in Avila Beach, Calif., and as an equipment advisor and salesman at Pro Golf Discount of Yakima, Wash. Timothy attended California Polytechnic University. He lives in Newberg with his wife Michelle, who will be enrolling in the university’s PsyD program in the fall.


Dana Miller (Advancement) is leaving the university at the end of July. He has accepted a position with the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust as senior program director for grant programs. During his 11 years at George Fox, Dana served on the senior leadership teams of three presidents. A search has begun for a new vice president of advancement. Sheri Philips will serve as the interim executive director of advancement.

Michelle Welton (Tilikum) left her retreat center director position at Tilikum on June 30. She is moving to Portland with her husband Brent, who was recently hired by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Connor Edmonds
(Library) left his part-time archivist position on June 30. He has been hired to oversee the records management unit for the secretary of state’s archives division, an agency that develops records retention schedules for all cities, counties, state agencies, and special districts in Oregon.

Sarah Myhre
(Undergraduate Admissions) left the university in June and moved to Texas to work at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Sharon Westfall (Registrar) left George Fox in June to work in the registrar’s office at the Portland campus of Linfield College.

Kay Winters (Library) left George Fox in June to accept a position with Oregon Health & Science University’s family medicine department.

Clark Campbell (Psychology) has been elected president-elect of the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology. Clark will assume office at the close of the organization’s business meeting in Boston on Aug. 14, 2008. He will be president of NCSPP in 2009-10.

Bill Buhrow (Health and Counseling Services) presented a poster, “Differences in Sexual Behavior and Contraceptive Use in Religious and Non-Religious Universities: A Comparison Using the National College Health Assessment,” at the American College Health Association national meeting in Orlando in June.

Kenn Willson (Performing Arts) completed a piano concert tour in his home state of Montana this spring. He performed a “Viennese Connections” program, featuring the music of Beethoven, in various churches in Billings and his hometown of Big Timber. The presentations included a slide show that Kenn compiled during his 2006 trip to Vienna, Austria.

Mike Goins (Financial Affairs) served on an accreditation site visit team for the Northwest Commission on Colleges & Universities at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma in April.

(Writing/Literature) poem “week’s rain” was published in the most recent edition of the online literary magazine qarrtsiluni. This is the second poem of Ed’s that the publication has posted to its site.

Bryan Boyd (Performing Arts) and wife Kim adopted a baby girl. Sara Uriza Boyd was born May 25 in Florida and was 6 pounds, 9 ounces. She joins a big sister, Emmanuelle, and big brother, Mykel.

The husband of former HR director Marva Crecelius, alumnus Ron Crecelius Jr., died on June 11 from complications from hepatitis C and liver failure. He was 58. In addition to Marva, other survivors include two sons, including 1995 graduate Kyle Jackson.

Twila Tschan, daughter of Vicki (Student Financial Services) and Manfred Tschan, won a $1,000 scholarship for being one of the top five interviews at the America’s Junior Miss Competition contested in Mobile, Ala., June 26-28. Twila will be a George Fox freshman this fall.

Bob (Professor Emeritus) and Maurine Gilmore celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 21. A reception followed the Sunday morning worship at West Chehalem Friends Church on June 22. Bob sang and played the song “A Wedding Prayer,” which he wrote for their wedding 50 years ago.
