Career Services is hosting a prep-shop and webinar on getting into grad school from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Hoover 210. Led by Career Services graduate assistant Chloe Lee, who has an MA and is also a PsyD student at George Fox, the event will cover using a time line for admissions; taking the grad exams; selecting grad schools; preparing a curriculum vitae, cover letter and essay; obtaining recommendations; finding financial aid; and practicing for an admissions interview.
The prep-shop will be available by webinar at that same time. Contact Career Services at careers@georgefox.edu or ext. 2330 ASAP to get on one of our lists. The webinar has limited slots and is reserved for distance School of Professional Studies audiences first, but there will be a webinar waiting list available for Newberg campus participants. The deadline to sign up is noon Monday, Oct. 12.
Are you ready to apply for graduate school? Career Services is sponsoring a workshop and webinar on getting into grad school, a blog on our website at careers.georgefox.edu, helpful resources in our Stevens 220 Career Center, and a Seminary Fair (Oct. 14). Please watch for the details (TBA) and don’t miss the chance to spruce up your professional image for graduate school admission.
The Writing Center (formerly known as The Portland Writing Center) now has e-mail and website addresses to match its new name. Students wishing to use the center’s writing consultation services should check the appointment schedule at the website, wc.georgefox.edu, then e-mail to schedule an appointment at wc@georgefox.edu.
Starting immediately, the Newberg campus bookstore has officially changed its name from George Fox University Store to Bruin Bookstore. The new name allows the bookstore to represent the university with a more collegiate feel and gives us the opportunity to highlight our great mascot. Same great merchandise, same great service, great new name! Come check us out.
The library is pleased to announce that we now provide access to a suite of 32 periodical and reference database products from Gale/Cengage. Examples of our new databases are Gale’s Academic OneFile, covering a broad range of disciplines and subject-specific databases such as the Health & Wellness Resource Center and Business & Company Resource Center.
A complete list of these new databases is available. Databases can also be found at the Databases A-Z list on the library’s home page (library.georgefox.edu), and in some library subject guides.
All regional site campuses (Boise, Portland, Salem and Redmond) will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day.
Bruindata will be down for maintenance between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Aug. 19-20.
The university’s library will be migrating its catalog and related software to a new server on Thursday, Aug. 13. Foxtrax and library databases will be unavailable from 8 a.m. until Thursday evening.
Some needed maintenance will be done to the site calendar.georgefox.edu between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 4-5. The website will be unavailable during this maintenance window.
All university offices and libraries will be closed on Friday, July 3, for the Independence Day holiday.
Did you know that your university e-mail account is also a Google Account? (Note that it is just a Google Account, not a Google E-mail Account). Want to know more? Visit this link on the IT website.
Have an e-nnouncement you’d like to post? You can submit your news using a form online at georgefox.edu/online_community/e-nnouncement_request.
The submission form is no longer available on Bruindata.
There is a new class schedule available on the Web that displays classes in the familiar format used in Bruindata. Go to http://class.georgefox.edu to access the same MyGFU class schedule listing in a table format to assist with registration and advising.
All university offices in Newberg and at regional sites will be closed on Monday, May 25, to observe the Memorial Day holiday.
The university’s library has added texting as part of its “Ask Us” service. Now George Fox students, faculty and staff can send questions and receive answers from librarians by using their cell phones. More information is available at georgefox.edu/offices/murdock/text.html.
This is your final reminder that your university password has been set to expire at 9 a.m. Monday, April 13, as part of the university’s annual password reset for all students, faculty and staff. Please login to Bruindata to change your password before that date.
All accounts with passwords that remain unchanged will be locked at 9 a.m. Monday, April 13, preventing you from using university services. Once this occurs, you will need to contact the IT Service Desk to get your password reset. Based on the recommendations of our auditing firm and following best practices, we will be changing university logins at regular intervals. For details, please refer to the password change policy on the IT website. We need to complete a campus password reset prior to the end of the spring semester.
Note: You are not being asked to send your login information to anyone. Rather, you are using the current university password change process that allows the individual to reset their own password.
Password Self-Service Feature
Once you have reset your password, you will be presented with the option to set “security questions” for your account. If you choose not to enter answers at this time, you can later create a self-service password reset option by logging into Bruindata, selecting the “My Data” tab and then “Security Questions.” You will need to answer two security questions from the drop-down list and provide a non-George Fox e-mail address to activate this option. If you forgot your password, a temporary password will be sent to your non-George Fox e-mail, allowing you to log into Bruindata and change your university login password.
