2012-13 budget announcement

Financial Affairs will be loading a temporary budget for 2012-13 and opening up the 2012-13 year in PeopleSoft on Monday, June 18. This is a temporary budget that will show the 2011-12 budget numbers; this will not be the final budget.

This is only being loaded as a place-holder to allow urgent purchase orders to be created for 2012-13 until the Adjusted 2012-13 Budget is complete. Please contact Cris Banton (ext. 2167) or Debbie Cash (ext. 2171) before entering any purchase orders over $5,000.

Administrator contracts and support staff employment statements to be issued soon

HR is continuing to diligently work over the next few weeks to prepare employment statements for support staff and annual contracts for administrators for the new fiscal year (2012-13). They will be sent to employees’ campus boxes no later than Monday, June 25, but the goal is to have them out sooner. We apologize for the delay in issuing these.

FoxTALE unavailable for two hours on May 30

Faculty: Textbook orders are due

Faculty: Please remember to submit your textbook orders for fall semester before you go into “summer mode.” We will begin placing orders very soon. You can find the form under Faculty Resources.

We are open all summer (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday), so late orders are always accepted and we will make every attempt to get your books here on time. Fall sales begin July 1. If you’ve already submitted your orders, thanks and enjoy your summer!

Opening for Executive Assistant I at seminary

Due to Jean Oehm Miller’s upcoming departure, this full-time position is currently open to internal applicants (employees). Temporary employees may also apply, but external applications are not being accepted.

Retirement plan contribution percentage error on April 30 pay day

The university’s retirement plan contribution was scheduled to change from 9 percent to 6 percent on the April 30 pay day. However, due to an error in the PeopleSoft settings, the contribution remained at 9 percent. To offset this additional 3 percent contribution on your April pay, only 3 percent of your May 31 pay will be contributed. Thereafter, the contribution will correctly be 6 percent. The PeopleSoft benefit table has been set up for 3 percent on May 31 and 6 percent beginning June 30, to ensure that this situation will not occur again.

Simply log into MyGFU and click the “Community Meeting Link” located under “Staff Resources/Faculty Resources.” It is the bottom link in that section. The link will take you to all the information relating to community meetings and include a live-stream link (the password changes each meeting) and a chat room link.

FoxTALE fall 2012 upgrade info for faculty

Join us for a 30-minute webinar that covers new features in the upgraded FoxTALE system. Webinars are scheduled for late spring and summer.

We are also hosting open lab times in Newberg and Portland during the week of May 7-11 so that you can drop in and view your course sites in the new FoxTALE or ask questions.

The upgrade requires a new FoxTALE environment. We need your help to identify FoxTALE course sites with content to be copied to the new environment. We’d like to copy and move courses needed for fall 2012 first and have them copied for you before summer. Please follow these steps.

University closes April 6 to observe Good Friday

The university’s offices and libraries will be closed on Friday, April 6, to observe Good Friday. The Newberg library will be closed Friday and Sunday but will be open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday. The Portland Center library will be closed Friday through Sunday.

Fall book orders are due this week

Faculty: Please submit your textbook requests for fall 2012 as soon as possible. Orders are needed this week for us to have enough time to process them before buyback begins.

Without your orders, students will not get the highest value for their books. To date, we’ve received only one-third of expected requests.

Nominations now open for April Employee of the Month

April is here already, so it is time to think about nominating a colleague for April’s Employee of the Month award for 2012. If you know of someone whose recent contributions make him or her worthy of this honor, please take a few minutes to send an e-mail to Peggy Kilburg that includes a specific summary of the person’s contributions (past 30 days or so) and any other information that you believe makes this person deserving of this award.

The winner will be recognized and awarded a $100 gift card to The Allison at our community meeting on April 24. (March’s winner will be recognized at our April 5 community meeting.)

University campuses closed Friday for spring break holiday

All Newberg, Portland, Boise, Salem and Redmond offices will be closed tomorrow (Friday, March 30), for the spring break holiday. All libraries and bookstores will be closed as well.

Deadline extended for Support Staff and Administrator of Year nominations

Nominations for Support Staff Member of the Year and Administrator of the Year for 2011-12 will be accepted through Friday, April 13.

If you have any colleagues you believe are deserving of this award, please take a few minutes to submit a nomination. Links to a memo about the nomination process and criteria, the nomination form, and the list eligible employees can be found at the top of the Payroll and Performance Forms page of the HR website.

Using the nomination form is optional. Nominations can also be submitted in an e-mail to Peggy Kilburg (pkilburg@georgefox.edu).
