Faculty development opportunity: Role-immersion pedagogy

Verdis Robinson (Black History Month guest speaker) and Paul Otto are running a faculty development workshop on role-immersion pedagogy from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, in Roberts 120.

Reacting pedagogy engages students more deeply than common classroom practices and combines content instruction along with critical thinking, public speaking, persuasive writing, and teamwork. It is used in disciplines across the arts and sciences. As one professor said, “It’s the most rewarding teaching you can do, because students will take ownership of their learning.”

This two-hour workshop is a hands-on introduction to the pedagogy through a game that explores race, class, and frontier conflict in colonial Virginia. It will be a challenging and fun way to meet some of your faculty development credits.
