Promote student learning with NotebookLM
If you are teaching a class, you may be interested in AI tools that can help students master academic content for your courses. NotebookLM is an AI-powered app available to all George Fox students and employees.
Unlike general tools such as ChatGPT or Gemini (which is also free with George Fox accounts), NotebookLM’s interactions are based solely on the material you or your students upload. Users can add almost unlimited digital content to a NotebookLM notebook, including readings, notes, audio recordings, slides, and specific web pages.
Key Features and Pedagogical Relevance
- Studio Tools: Students can use the “Studio” tools to instantly create resources like quizzes, flashcards, visual mind maps, or audio overviews – all derived exclusively from designated course content. This enables students to generate practice quizzes and flashcards that align precisely with course lectures and materials.
- Chat: The chat feature ensures that student questions or instructions receive responses based only on the designated content, grounding their AI interactions in your material.
- Sharing: You can share your notebook – or have students share theirs – with others who have a George Fox email address, supporting collaborative learning or content distribution.
For more information, see this overview from Google or the Complete How-To Guide to NotebookLM from another source. Note that features are frequently updated, so these resources may be slightly out of date but remain helpful.
A caveat: If students find that creating their own learning materials is a more effective way to learn, encourage them to stick with that method!
