Tomorrow’s Shalom Summit explores peace, justice and flourishing

Our community longs for shalom, God’s peace, justice and flourishing. The Shalom Summit is a time to pause together in worship, prayer and learning as we explore what it means to practice shalom.

The Shalom Summit, set from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) in the chapel, will include workshops and activities:

  • D’Metri Mattocks-Lopez, “Let Hope Arise”: Stories of hope and crafting “Shalom Statements” together
  • Rev. Joel Sommer, “Survive. Thrive. Resist.”: Contemplative practices like silence, Sabbath, and Scripture to help justice seekers stay grounded
  • Dr. Sadara Shine, “Justice Flows Where Prayer Intercedes”: How prayer fuels courage, clarity and lasting restoration in justice work

We’ll also hear from voices shaping conversations on justice, art, and hope:

  • Jennifer Toledo (Expressions58): “Sustaining Hope While Seeking Shalom” (Main Session 1)
  • Susie Gamez (Midtown Church): “Sustaining Hope While Seeking Shalom” (Main Session 2)
  • Propaganda (PropHipHop): “Connecting Art and Justice”

Chapel credit will be available! Students, staff, faculty, administrators and friends are all welcome to come and “seek the shalom of the city” (Jeremiah 29:7).
