Carry on Grandpa Roy’s legacy by volunteering for Friday Flowers on Oct. 3

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025

Join us in celebrating a special Homecoming tradition, Friday Flowers, that honors Grandpa Roy, a beloved member of the George Fox community for over four decades.

For those who don’t know, Grandpa Roy shared thousands of flowers from his garden and encouraged students in many ways over the years. On Friday, Oct. 3, we’ll meet at the Centennial Tower at 11:30 a.m. and hand out flowers to students in the quad until noon.

It’s a small time commitment but a meaningful way to carry on Roy’s legacy of kindness. Sign up for Friday Flowers by Monday, Sept. 29, here.

Register for ‘Cooking with Class,’ featuring a low-sugar apple crisp, before spots are gone

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025

Why does an apple a day keep the doctor away? Fun fact: Apples are packed with soluble fiber, which helps lower cholesterol and promotes gut health, and they are a great source of antioxidants like flavonoids and polyphenols.

These compounds help reduce inflammation, protect against chronic diseases such as heart disease and certain cancers, and support overall immune function. While eating your daily apple won’t guarantee perfect health, its dense nutritional profile contributes to a balanced diet that can help maintain wellness and reduce the risk of illness.

Speaking of apples, our popular “Cooking with Class” series is back, and we’re celebrating all things apple on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at noon in Canyon Commons. A talented Bon Appétit baker will guide us in creating a delicious, low-sugar apple crisp.

But the fun doesn’t stop there – you’ll also enjoy a wonderful apple-themed lunch, sample a variety of fresh apples, and get a take-home kit so you can make another crisp for your family and friends.

We only have 80 spots, and they are filling quickly. Click here to RSVP so you don’t miss a day of apple-filled fun!

John Spencer speaks on AI in education on Oct. 8

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025

The AI revolution is here. For some, it’s exciting. For others, it’s terrifying. Still others are baffled and confused by it. Many of us feel a mix of all of these. But one thing is clear: It’s here and it’s not going away.

In this session, we explore how we might adapt and change as we navigate the new terrain of an AI world. Join us on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Stevens 208, as we will explore how At might transform teaching, scholarship and service, and navigate a blended approach focused on ethics and wisdom.

John Spencer, author of The Depth Advantage, is a former middle school teacher and a George Fox professor. He is dedicated to transforming schools to foster creativity and wonder in students. He is also the coauthor of the books Launch and Empower, and the founder of two educational technology start-ups.

In 2013, he spoke at the White House to share his vision for empowering students to be “future-ready” through creativity and design thinking. Spencer is passionate about using design thinking and a “maker mindset” to help students become creative thinkers and problem-solvers. He has a podcast, “The Creative Classroom with John Spencer,” and a YouTube channel.
