Teach English as part of the Community Language Program

Sunday, September 28th, 2025

Do you want to teach English professionally, perhaps as a second language? Are you looking for experience? Are you interested in culture and people?

The English Department invites you to partner with the Newberg community as an English teacher in our Community Language Program. Classes will take place at Edwards Elementary School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from October through April.

You and a few other college students will be in charge of teaching a class of either English or Spanish as a second language. Tasks include lesson planning, in-class instruction, teacher debriefing and logistical coordination.

You’ll gain invaluable experience teaching English, involve yourself in your local community, connect personally with our immigrant neighbors, and have something incredible to add to your resume and job applications.

Engage in a conversation about how we should respond to political violence

Sunday, September 28th, 2025

The George Fox University Civility Project, along with United as Neighbors of Newberg and Dundee, invite you to join a conversation about how we should respond to political violence. This issue is even more urgent since the assassination of Charlie Kirk and the range of ways people have responded to that event.

At Community Conversations, you’ll get a chance to better understand the views of people who disagree with you while helping them understand your views and the reasons you hold them.

A good conversation can help everyone get a fuller, clearer picture of why people think the way they do, avoid misunderstanding, and heal polarized groups and communities. Come practice this Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Canyon Commons.

For more information about the Civility Project and its events, check out this website or contact Ron Mock at civility@georgefox.edu.
