The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will be hosting Summer Visit Day on campus today (Friday). With around 350 visitors expected on campus, we’re asking George Fox students and employees to help extend the Be Known promise throughout the day. Here’s what you can keep in mind:

• Use street parking instead of campus parking lots (specifically Stevens and Hoover lots). Guests will be arriving on campus this morning at 8:30 a.m. and will fill the main campus parking lots.
• All visitors will take a campus tour at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., so please be mindful of guests walking through the main buildings on campus.

The beginning of next week, Newberg temperatures are expected to be in the mid- to high-90s. While we all love a beautiful summer day, high temperatures bring the risk of heat-related illnesses. Your safety is our top priority, so let’s make sure we’re all prepared.

To help everyone stay cool and healthy, please follow the university’s heat protocol:

• Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! Drink water every 20 minutes, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
• Time Your Tasks Wisely. Schedule more strenuous work for the cooler parts of the day, like the morning.
• Seek Out the AC. If your building feels too warm, head to an air-conditioned space such as Canyon Commons, Klages, or the Murdock Library.
• Look Out for Each Other. Between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., check on your fellow employees and classmates every hour or two. A quick check-in can make a big difference!
• Know the Symptoms. Familiarize yourself with the signs of heat-related illnesses. You can find more information here: Heat-Related Illness Symptoms.

Parking permit registration opens tomorrow (Friday) with our new virtual parking permit software. You will no longer need to swap out tags or purchase additional permits. The new system will allow up to three vehicles.

With this move to virtual permits you will need to enter in all of your vehicle data once again through your George Fox portal. As for the old hang tags? They are now considered vintage George Fox memorabilia. Feel free to keep or dispose of them as you see fit.

Registration will also open for all students on Friday. They will continue to use the decals we have used in the past.

Volunteers are needed at the Bruin Community Pantry food bank this fall! We welcome George Fox students and employees to volunteer.

This opportunity allows great connections with students and others in our community, and the new space in the Lewis 1 apartment is warm and inviting. Some faculty members set up office hours during their shifts. If you’re a student and need community service hours for a class, volunteering at the food bank is a great way to fill those hours.

Volunteer requirements:

• Must be able to serve at the time slot that they choose for the entire semester. We do have substitutes available when something unexpected arises.
• Must be able to attend an orientation that lasts about 30 minutes.
• Required to complete two online training presentations (a total of 20 minutes).

Yeah! It’s finally here! Opening day for parking permit registration will be this Friday, Aug. 8.

You can apply for your permit at your my.georgefox.edu portal. Select Campus Resources, then Vehicle Registration. Please enter your campus box address as your mailing address if you are a resident on campus.

You will be issued a temporary permit upon completion of your registration. You will need to print it out and place it on your dashboard until your sticker arrives in the mail.

All students and staff are required to reapply for a new permit, even if you still have one from last year. We have a new parking permit provider, and all data and permits must be renewed.

The Office for Spiritual Life is looking for Life Group leaders for our fall 2025 Life Groups series (the weeks of Sept. 15 through Oct. 31). Life Groups are small groups of undergraduate students who meet together for prayer, Bible study and fellowship. Groups meet weekly for 60 to 90 minutes.

This fall, our groups will be either in person or completely via Zoom. Groups led by a George Fox staff or faculty member will be SPIL-credit eligible in order to encourage students to engage in high-quality spiritual formation experiences that are participatory and offer ongoing community.

We are excited to announce that on Friday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the student life office will be hosting our Community Fair! Please let Kara Holcombe know if you are interested and willing to staff a tent for your department.

We will provide a 10×10 tent, one table and two chairs. You would provide any paperwork or other items you would like to be made available to students or family members/guests.

Welcome Weekend is almost here! In order for our hundreds of new students to have a seamless move-in experience, we need extra cooperation from the staff, faculty and students already here on Thursday evening, Aug. 21, and Friday, Aug. 22.

Staff and faculty: Please plan to park along the street, in the Bauman or Morse lot on Friday.

Students: If your on-campus residence is Pennington, Edwards, Weesner Village, Hobson, Macy, Sutton, Le Shana, Gulley, Brandt or Newlin Hall, we need you to vacate the lots associated with these locations on Thursday evening and stay out of them on Friday Aug. 22.

If you normally park in the Le Shana or Newlin Hall lots, please move your cars as close to Fulton Street as possible so that the areas in front of the buildings remains clear. You can also move your vehicles to the Bauman or Morse lot on Thursday evening.

Everyone in the Pennington lot, lollipop area, Edwards or Weesner Village needs to move to the 99W lot on Thursday evening. Please keep Sheridan Street clear for easier access for our incoming students.

The lot in between the Roberts Center, Gulley and Brandt Halls must be vacated on Thursday evening as well. The Morse lot is also available for Friday.

While Dr. Catherine Cieslak is out on maternity leave, our summer physical therapist, Dr. Jordon Whitaker, will treat all kinds of pain, injuries and movement difficulties of all types, so please reach out if you are needing guidance or treatment.
