Are you ready for the heat this weekend? As we welcome students back beginning Friday, temperatures are expected to be in the 90s. Your safety is our top priority, so let’s make sure we’re all prepared.
To help everyone stay cool and healthy, please follow the university’s heat protocol:
Got questions about staying safe in the heat? Don’t hesitate to reach out! Contact Kim Knoernschild, our environmental health and safety specialist, at kknoernschild@georgefox.edu.

Happy Wellness Wednesday! As summer ends and we prepare for a new school year, remember that our Providence Health Plan offers convenient care from anywhere!
With ExpressCare Virtual, you can connect with a board-certified clinician through secure video chat on your smartphone, tablet or computer. It’s designed for minor medical concerns like colds, flu, rashes, allergies and more, and they can even prescribe medication or order lab work if needed. It’s an easy way to get the care you need without a trip to the clinic, available with extended hours seven days a week.
Accessing ExpressCare Virtual is simple: visit this site to start your visit in minutes. Providence Medical Home Health Plans cover ExpressCare Virtual services at no cost. However, High Deductible HSA plan members must first meet their plan deductible; after that, services are covered in full.
This is a great resource to keep your family healthy as routines shift.

The George Fox University Program for Leadership & Formation is soliciting applications for departmental micro-grants that further our mission: “to unite the fragmenting purposes of learning (worldview, character formation, and vocation) by building organizational coherence around a Christ-centered framework of character formation (Head, Heart, and Hands) and the virtues of wisdom, moral courage, and neighbor love.”
We invite proposals of any amount between $250 and $2,000 that fulfill the following conditions:
Note: The term “department” is loosely understood to refer to any existing organizational unit that engages a particular group of students in an ongoing way (academic or co-curricular).
Applications are due Monday, Sept. 1. To submit an application, please click here.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Travis Pickell at tpickell@georgefox.edu.
Let’s work together to help students succeed! The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is here to be a resource for students.
To make sure we’re ready to help, please let us know if you are assigning an ARC-required assignment or an extra credit opportunity. Knowing this helps us better prepare our consultants and anticipate an increase in student visits.
We also encourage you to send students our way for general support! We can assist them with:
Your partnership makes a huge difference in helping us help students. Thank you for including us as a resource in your classes.
Contact Heather Harney at hharney@georgefox.edu if you have a required assignment, would like to assign extra credit, or if you have questions.
The Bruin Community Pantry is making a change to better serve our community! We are shifting to purchasing eggs in bulk to make our budget go further, allowing us to provide more food for our students.
To make this possible, we need your help! Please donate your clean, empty cardboard egg cartons to the pantry. Your donations will allow us to distribute bulk eggs to students in a safe and secure way.
Please drop off your cartons at the food pantry during our hours of operation.
Department of Human Services representatives will be on-site at the Bruin Community Pantry to assist folks with signing up for food stamps (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits).
No appointment is required, and the hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28.
Stop by if you would like to speak with someone from DHS. For more information, please contact Jere Witherspoon at jwitherspoon@georgefox.edu.
Experience Shakespeare’s madcap farce like never before in our breathless 80-minute production of The Comedy of Errors.
Performed in our beautiful outdoor amphitheater, this production features George Fox students, staff, alumni and community professionals. Enjoy an evening of hilarious slapstick humor as two sets of twins turn a Mediterranean town upside down through narrow escapes, mistaken identities, and an abundance of errors.
Patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs for seating during the performance. One free ticket is available for each George Fox student (Wednesday or Thursday shows only) and staff member (any performance). Use your georgefox.edu email address when checking out online at the box office.
Shows run this Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 20-21; Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23-24; and Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 28-31. All shows begin at 8 p.m.
We’re excited to announce that the Bruin Discounts webpage is now live!
Bruin Discounts is a program where local businesses generously offer exclusive discounts to members of the George Fox community. These offers are our way of saying thank you to you – and a way for us to support and strengthen our ties with Newberg’s local businesses.
Letters were sent to businesses a few weeks ago, and we are still receiving replies; those will be added as they come in. You can now view available discounts here.
Following are the policies for using Bruin Discounts:
We encourage you to frequent and thank these local businesses for their generosity and for supporting our George Fox community.
Do you know of a business that would like to join? They can submit their offer using this form.
Thank you for being part of the George Fox community and helping us build strong local relationships!
