Know what resources are available for Men’s Health Month

Monday, June 16th, 2025

June is Men’s Health Month. By prioritizing prevention and making annual wellness visits a regular habit, men can lower the risk of chronic diseases, improve mental health, and enhance their quality of life.

Let’s take a proactive approach to wellness together, starting with a few Providence Health Plan tips below.

  • Nearly 1 in 10 men experience some form of depression or anxiety, but fewer than half seek treatment. Your Providence Health Plan offers several options for visits, both in person and virtually. They also provide unique behavioral health concierge services, with virtual provider access typically within seven days. Check out all your choices here.
  • About 50% of adult men in the U.S. have high blood pressure. This increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Prevention starts with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management.
  • Approximately 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. Early detection is key. Staying on track with scheduled screenings is important for early diagnosis, treatment, and better outcomes.
  • Nearly 18% of men in the U.S. have diabetes (diagnosed and undiagnosed). Whether you’ve had diabetes or are newly diagnosed, Providence’s Oregon Nutrition, Diabetes and Health Education Center offers knowledge and self-care skills necessary to live a healthy life.

Take the first step to better health today. Establish care with your Primary Care Provider (PCP). Don’t wait! It’s important to have someone who understands your health history and, if needed, can quickly arrange screenings or connect you to specialists.

Please fill out Serve Day form to help us prepare for a day of service Sept. 10

Monday, June 2nd, 2025

Serve Day 2025 is set for Wednesday, Sept. 10, and preparations are officially underway!

Please help us prepare by completing this “SD’25 Employee Info Gathering Survey” for all of our regular Newberg employees part time and above (and any Portland employees who would like to join the fun!).

We want to do our best to prioritize making serve site connections for employees that could encourage longer-term or ongoing community service partnerships. Also on the form, you can note any limitations and previous serve site connections or questions you might have, and we’ll take it all into consideration when coordinating this summer.

If you’re planning to be on sabbatical, family leave, or know of a significant change that will keep you away from campus during the week of Sept. 10, you can let us know using the form, which is essential for our preparations.

The next 100 days will breeze by, and before you know it, it will be time for our next highly anticipated, university-wide day of service together!

Contact Serveday@georgefox.edu with all of your important questions and feedback.
