Know what resources are available for Men’s Health Month
June is Men’s Health Month. By prioritizing prevention and making annual wellness visits a regular habit, men can lower the risk of chronic diseases, improve mental health, and enhance their quality of life.
Let’s take a proactive approach to wellness together, starting with a few Providence Health Plan tips below.
- Nearly 1 in 10 men experience some form of depression or anxiety, but fewer than half seek treatment. Your Providence Health Plan offers several options for visits, both in person and virtually. They also provide unique behavioral health concierge services, with virtual provider access typically within seven days. Check out all your choices here.
- About 50% of adult men in the U.S. have high blood pressure. This increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Prevention starts with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management.
- Approximately 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. Early detection is key. Staying on track with scheduled screenings is important for early diagnosis, treatment, and better outcomes.
- Nearly 18% of men in the U.S. have diabetes (diagnosed and undiagnosed). Whether you’ve had diabetes or are newly diagnosed, Providence’s Oregon Nutrition, Diabetes and Health Education Center offers knowledge and self-care skills necessary to live a healthy life.
Take the first step to better health today. Establish care with your Primary Care Provider (PCP). Don’t wait! It’s important to have someone who understands your health history and, if needed, can quickly arrange screenings or connect you to specialists.
