Air-conditioned Murdock Library is available during extreme heat

Monday, July 8th, 2024

We wanted to remind you of the 24-hour access space in the Murdock Library. It is air-conditioned and has bathrooms and power for your computers and devices.

You are welcome in the library at any time (seven days a week and 24 hours per day), with your student ID card opening the locked doors (after hours). Be careful in this extreme heat. Stay hydrated and watch out for each other.

Honor our service award recipients with your ‘gift of words’

Sunday, July 7th, 2024

The upcoming all-community meeting on Monday, Aug. 19, will be a time for celebration and looking ahead toward our shared aspirations for the 2024-25 academic year.

During the meeting, we will also be celebrating some amazing accomplishments, including employees who have milestone service anniversaries this year. These are employees who have completed five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years of service at George Fox!

It’s become our tradition to thank these colleagues with our “gift of words.” Please take the time to submit this Google form and help us honor your coworkers and friends with notes of encouragement, gratitude or shared memories. The deadline to respond is Friday, Aug. 2.

Thank you in advance for making this an extra-special celebration for our loyal employees celebrating a milestone service anniversary this year!

Is there a coworker who deserves a shout-out?

Sunday, July 7th, 2024

Please take a moment to express your gratitude and appreciation for a coworker who has helped you, your team, or students flourish. Whether they’ve offered valuable input, lent a helping hand, or brightened your day with their positivity, this is a chance to let our community know.

Many of the shout-outs collected will be shared at the all-community meeting on Monday, Aug. 19.

Follow these steps during this week’s heat wave

Sunday, July 7th, 2024

We are still in an excessive heat warning until the middle of the week. As per our heat protocol, please follow the following steps:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking water every 20 minutes.
  • Schedule more strenuous work in the cooler parts of the day, such as the morning.
  • If your building does not have air conditioning, take advantage of cooler buildings such as the Murdock Library, Klages, or Canyon Commons.
  • Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., check on fellow employees every hour to two hours.
  • Know the symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

If you have any questions about best practices during high heat, please contact Kim Knoernschild, our environmental health, and safety specialist, at kknoernschild@georgefox.edu.

Complete your next steps for financial aid

Monday, July 1st, 2024

Fall charges are due on Thursday, Aug. 15. Do you have a plan in place to pay your balance? Review and follow these steps to make sure your financial aid is ready to go on time!

  1. File your FAFSA! If you have not filed yet, or if you still need to make corrections to your existing FAFSA, you will need to submit the application as soon as possible for us to package any federal and state aid you might be eligible for.
  2. Check your MyGeorgeFox To Do List. In many cases, we are unable to issue or even offer aid until checklist items are completed. Instructions have been provided in MyGeorgeFox for any tasks that have been assigned to you.
  3. Accept your Stafford loans. If you want to use your federal Stafford loans, you can accept them in your MyGeorgeFox account under the Financial Aid tile. You also have the options to reduce or decline your loans.
  4. Apply for PLUS/private loans. To add a federal PLUS loan or a private loan to your financial aid package, apply by July 15 to ensure the funds will be disbursed by the payment due date.
  5. Report outside scholarships. If you have received any external scholarships, let us know so we can add them to your award package.
  6. Apply for a payment plan. We offer five-month payment plans each semester, and the first payment for the fall term will be due on July 15. To apply, complete this Payment Estimator and submit a Payment Selection Form as soon as possible.

We encourage you to have all of these steps completed by Aug. 1. Students also need to be enrolled full time (12 or more credits) to receive their institutional aid each semester.

Please schedule an appointment with your financial aid counselor or contact our main office at finaid@georgefox.edu if you have any questions.
