Midterm grades provide an accurate picture of students’ academic progress so far this semester. Please be sure to enter midterm grades between Feb. 24 and 28, 2024.

The last day to withdraw from a class in which a student may be struggling without a graded responsibility is Sunday, March 17. If they choose to withdraw from a class, their transcript will show a “W.” If they do not withdraw and receive an F in the course, their GPA will suffer.

Let students know to check their grades in Canvas; they must log in to the Dashboard. On the right-hand side of the screen is a button titled “VIEW GRADES.” Here is a link to the Canvas Dashboard.

Encourage students who received a D or an F on their midterms to contact their CAP coach as soon as possible to discuss the consequences of withdrawing from a class. If a student withdraws from a class, they should also contact their CAP coach to discuss their class schedule for future semesters.

Students who fail all of their classes may have their financial aid package affected. Please let students know that if they have federal financial aid and are not passing any classes, to contact their student accounts advisor immediately.

Austin Smith, a doctoral candidate in Baylor University’s Higher Education Studies and Leadership program, is looking for students to participate in a research study about campus traditions and their relation to culture at Christian colleges and universities. 

For this study, Austin will be coming to our campus from Feb. 27 to March 1 to conduct voluntary focus groups with students as well as interviews with faculty and staff. 

Participation is open to any student who has been at the institution for at least one full academic year, and will consist of participating in a focus group that should last approximately 60 to 90 minutes. He will be providing snacks as an expression of his gratitude for offering up your time.

The Guerras are singer-songwriters based out of Austin, Texas. Jon describes his style as “devotional music,” a term he coined to refer to his musical style, as “less Sunday morning worship music, and more Monday morning prayer music.” His 2023 album, Ordinary Ways, was critically acclaimed and won Best Album of The Year at the Gospel Coalition’s yearly round-up.

One of the significant places on campus is our climbing wall in the Hadlock Student Center. It is a place to challenge one’s body, lean into one’s ability to strategize, enjoy the depth of community, and try something new and different. However, it is also intimidating in the minds of some.  

Sometimes things need to be “adapted.” The world of climbing talks about “adaptive climbing” in relation to those who have neurological diseases, spinal cord injuries, amputations, and/or vision challenges that cannot be corrected with lenses. However, we know there may be other challenges that create barriers as well. 

We would like to make the Hadlock climbing wall accessible to all students and staff if they choose. We are pulling together two focus groups – one for students on Tuesday, March 5, at 10 a.m. and one for staff (TBD). We want to answer the question, “If climbing were to ever become an interest for you, what would have to change for you to participate?”

We would love to have anyone and everyone who would like to engage with our question to join us. We welcome and value your thoughts and perspectives.

This is an open invitation to discuss student government (otherwise known as the Associated Student Community, or ASC). This group helps the institution understand the undergraduate community while providing resources and seeking to advocate to be change agents in and for the community. The different roles are varied and can be found here.

Each year, these individuals are voted into their roles. The election season begins in a few weeks and will gear up in March. ASC will send out additional details in the coming days.

In the meantime, if you would like to speak about the roles and the aspirations of the student government, Associate Dean of Students Dave Johnstone would be happy to do so over coffee or a meal! Costs will be fully covered.

This year, the university’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program will be traveling to Uganda to serve their communities in need. While there, we will partner with local leaders and advocacy groups to provide training and collaborate in the treatment and management of people with disabilities.

Our time will be spent at two boarding schools for children with disabilities, as well as with local physicians and nurses helping run free primary care clinics. The DPT program cannot wait to see how God works through this trip for our students and those whom they will be serving.

The university community is welcome to a special guest lecture by Warner Pacific University President Brian Johnson at 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in Hoover 105. He will present “W.E.B. Du Bois in African American Intellectual and Christian History.”

William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, commonly known as W.E.B. Du Bois, was an intellectual, sociologist and civil rights activist whose contributions significantly impacted the African American struggle for equality and justice.

Dr. Johnson authored the biography W.E.B. Du Bois: Toward Agnosticism, 1868-1934. In the book, he describes the evolution of religious views from Du Bois’s birth until his resignation as editor of Crisis magazine in 1934.

Dr. Johnson is a sought-after speaker, accomplished professor, scholar and academic administrator. He serves as the first minority president in Warner Pacific University’s 83-year history. To learn more, visit this page.

Summer Online registration opens to traditional undergraduate students today. This is a great way for students to stay on track to graduate in four years.

Summer Online will run from June 3 – July 28. Students can register for up to three courses this summer. Courses are offered in an online asynchronous format through George Fox Digital, allowing students to have the flexibility to work a summer job and enjoy their summer breaks while earning crucial credits.

Join the Sources of Strength Club for an upstream suicide prevention training led by professor Kelly Chang!

The training will last four hours, and you will earn a certificate of completion upon finishing it. It will be held in Roberts 117 on Saturday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The mission of Sources of Strength training is to equip students and adult advisors to make a difference and spread hope, help and strength in your community. The training will allow you to create a culture promoting wellness where students feel comfortable to get help when they are struggling emotionally, might feel suicidal, or are having a tough time with anger, anxiety, or depression.

Looking for a part-time job? Event Services is looking for a hospitality specialist. The hospitality specialist works onsite during daytime hours to welcome guests and answer any questions. Other responsibilities include:

• Resolve or report building issues
• Monitor doors during locked hours
• Assist guest groups with room arrangements
• Maintain a steady communication link to the Newberg campus

Starting as early as Friday, March 15, available hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend opportunities. Grad students can work up to 28 hours per week.
