Dazzle us with your Christmas spirit: Sign up for department decoration competition

Calling all departments, including major programs, student-serving offices, student life, and administrative offices: You are invited to participate in our Christmas decoration competition!

This is your chance to shine, tie up that tinsel, deck those halls. A committee from marketing, advancement and admissions will be judging your decor on Thursday, Dec. 1, for spirit, creativity and amazement. There will be prizes!

So bring us your best elves. Please complete this form to let us know your department will be participating. Santa’s helpers will swing by your area between 10 and 11:30 a.m., and winners will be announced at the community Christmas extravaganza later in the day. Swing by Hadlock for free pumpkins and gourds

In the spirit of the harvest season, UREC is giving away free pumpkins and gourds at the Hadlock Student Center!

All students and employees are welcome to stop by and pick up one (or several) to paint or use for décor. We have a painting station set up in the lobby for you to use if you’d like to get creative.

Join us in Bauman Auditorium at 7 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 18, for a Lip Sync show you wont forget! Watch as five teams go head-to-head and compete to win the $500 prize. Every vote counts, so come watch and vote for your favorite team.

Tickets for Winter Formal, “An Evening in Athens,” are on sale in Canyon Commons today (Tuesday), tomorrow and Thursday. Swing by between noon and 2 p.m. and again from 5 to 7 p.m., or until we sell out. These tickets go fast, so get yours while you can!

Calling all George Fox students (and employees)! Come join the Sources of Strength Club this Thursday, Nov. 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Roberts 170 for a fun and relaxing evening of painting “alongside” Bob Ross!

Lottery registration open for UREC spring break trips

The lottery is now open for University Recreation’s outdoor-adventure spring break trips! Consider joining either or both of the lotteries for the possibility to be eligible for a spring break trip.

This year, we have one trip to Southern California, and another to Utah and Colorado. No prior outdoor recreation experience is necessary in order to attend one of these trips. Trips are open to any current undergraduate or graduate students.

Soccer camp for kids raises money for Special Olympics

Hello! We are holding a soccer camp to raise money for the Special Olympics. It will be for ages 4-13 and take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21, at the Austin Sports Complex.

There is a $10 fee to register, and no experience needed. All money received will be donated. If you’re unable to participate but still want to donate, please contact Ashley Foster at afoster20@georgefox.edu or 916-895-1310.

Join us this December for our amazing winter tennis camps for all ages and skill levels to kick off Christmas break! Come have some serious fun and improve your skill level, while cultivating a love for the sport.

Camps are scheduled Dec. 19-22, from either 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 to 4 p.m. They feature:

  • Three hours of tennis per day; drills, games, instruction and more!
  • USPTA professional coaching and development practices
  • Video analysis and comparison
  • George Fox shirts for all camp registrants
  • Prizes for winners of camp competitions

Clean up our community with the Stewards of Sustainability Club this Friday

Did you know that litter can release toxins, spread disease, release greenhouse gases, kill plants and animals, and even cause car accidents?

Help keep our community clean, safe, and beautiful by joining the Stewards of Sustainability Club this Friday, Nov. 18, to pick up trash around campus and Newberg.

We will be meeting up in Klages 231 at 3 p.m. on Friday. Bring your favorite mug, as we’ll be celebrating with hot chocolate afterwards! All supplies will be provided.

In preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday and the university closing for on Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, accounts payable will be processing the check run on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Please take note of the following deadlines:

  • All payment requests received by Thursday, Nov. 17, by 5 p.m. will be included in the Nov. 22 check run.
  • All other requests received after Nov. 17 will be included in our regularly scheduled check run on Dec. 1.

Join the university’s Christmas celebration on Dec. 1

Are you in the holiday spirit? Then you won’t want to miss the university’s Christmas celebration event on the Newberg campus on Thursday, Dec. 1!

You are invited to gather for cookies, coffee and cider in the Stevens Center atrium at 4 p.m. That will be followed by a tree-lighting ceremony, carols, and a devotional in the same location at 4:30 p.m.

Then, from 5 to 8 p.m., we’ll have carriage rides in the quad, a Christmas photo booth, a roaming Santa, choir and ensemble caroling, a petting zoo, and ornament decorating.

As for treats, we’ll be serving gourmet s’mores and hot cocoa (1927 S’mores Company), seasonal popcorn (Miss Hannah’s Popcorn) and apple cider, coffee, and cookies (compliments of Bon Appetit).

So, dress up in your favorite Christmas costume or sweater (there will be an incentive to do so) and join us!

Multi-factor authentication now required for students

As of today (Monday), all students will be required to use multi-factor authentication to sign in to university resources through single sign-on (email, Canvas, MyGeorgeFox, Zoom, etc.) at login.georgefox.edu.

All students are to opt-in to multi-factor authentication by following these instructions. We encourage everyone to set up more than one option. This will ensure that you have more than one way to sign in.

Survey: Homelessness in Newberg

This fall, a research group from Professional Writing (WRIT 310) is looking to gather data from students about general awareness of the homeless community in and around campus and the greater Newberg area. Our goal is to use the data to fuel our research paper in addressing the needs of the homeless community and connecting George Fox students with this community.

Enjoy ‘chill movie night’ with the Comic Book Club tonight in Hoover 207

Happy Friday! The Comic Book Club will meet tonight (Friday) at 7 p.m. in Hoover 207. This week will be a chill movie night.
