Mark your calendars for Serve Day on Sept. 14

Sunday, September 4th, 2022

Mark your calendars for Serve Day 2022: Wednesday, Sept. 14.

This annual event mobilizes all undergraduate students and Newberg employees to serve alongside community partners throughout the surrounding region. As an expression of our university mission statement, “to prepare students to serve with passion,” the university will close all Newberg offices and cancel classes so that we may direct our efforts toward serving our community.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m., followed by a kickoff celebration in the quad at 9:15 a.m. Teams will be dismissed to their service locations at 9:45 a.m., and return to campus by 3:30 p.m. to enjoy snacks, lawn games and music on the quad.

Questions? Contact us at serveday@georgefox.edu, or visit our Serve Day page.

Inform your students about paid, flexible, real-world experience opportunities

Thursday, September 1st, 2022

George Fox University is excited to announce a couple new opportunities for our students and recent graduates to take part in short-term, professional, paid work experiences through Parker Dewey (paid) and Forage (not paid) micro-internships.

Through these short-term, project-centered experiences, our students can demonstrate their skills, explore career paths and expand their professional networks. Unlike a traditional internship, these opportunities typically range from five to 40 hours of work and are deadline-driven as opposed to set during specific hours.

Not only does this program help the companies across various industries and departments who are looking for the skills our students and graduates possess, but it also allows our students to build real-world experience. Additionally, by engaging these companies early in their college careers, our students can make themselves more experienced and appealing candidates for future internship and career opportunities.

Please inform interested students that they can visit the Parker Dewey website or the Forage site to create a profile, and begin applying.

If the students, or you, have any questions or need assistance with this process, you can contact Wade Witherspoon in the CAP Center for help.

A new take on campus tag: WANTED

Thursday, September 1st, 2022

Tactical Adventure Games is proud to present their latest campus game: WANTED.

For those of you who have been involved in Bruins vs. Foxes, this game will also be a ton of fun, but definitely less time commitment required. We’ve put a lot of thought into this though, and it will be very fun, so we hope to see lots of players!

Game play will run Sept. 5-9. Sign-ups close Sunday night (Sept. 4) because we need to have time to assign targets and all that jazz.

WANTED Basics: At the beginning of the game, each player will be assigned a target. Your goal is to tag your target while avoiding being tagged by your pursuer. When you tag someone, they join your team and you both continue hunting for their target together.

At the end of the game, the largest team is declared the winner! Similar to our Bruins vs. Foxes games, each player will wear an identifying bandana (see rules doc for details).

Here is the WANTED sign-up form, and here is our rules document. Got questions? Contact James Marcelia at jmarcelia19@georgefox.edu.
