Students can use Canvas ‘What-if’ grades to predict final grade

If professors are recording grades in Canvas, students can enter hypothetical grades for future assignments to see the effect on their final grade. Instructions for students are available at “Using What-if Grades.” The feature can be helpful as advisors work with students to evaluate course performance.

It’s possible there are assignments that are not in Canvas, so students should make sure they know whether all graded activity is listed in Canvas when they use this feature, then adjust their interpretation of the “What-if” final grade accordingly.

Employees who are working with students – especially those who have compliance concerns related to athletics, financial aid, or otherwise – should ensure that student reporting of grades is coming from official grades, not “What-if” grading.
