The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is here to help students with writing, study skills, test-taking strategies, time management, and more. For your convenience, here is the official ARC syllabus statement for use in your syllabi.

“The Academic Resource Center (ARC) on the Newberg campus provides all students with free writing consultation, academic coaching, and learning strategy review (e.g., techniques to improve reading, note-taking, study, time management). The ARC, located in the Murdock Library, is open from 1 to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Friday. Interested in opera? Come join the Opera Workshop class (MUSA 1250-A or MUSA 3250-A), where you can let your character come to life with others on stage.

How often you have sung your aria and known the context of your aria in the scheme of the whole opera, and know who the other characters are, but you are the only one “on stage”? In Opera Workshop, you will have the rare chance to do solos, duets or trios with other singers on stage who are singing the characters you are interacting with from that opera.

Faculty are now invited to submit requests for spring semester course reserves at the libraries. Materials are processed in the order received and can take up to five days to complete, so we encourage submitting early and over break if possible!

The library is pleased to deliver library material for participating faculty to their offices on the Newberg campus. All library material must be signed for by the faculty member or persons authorized to sign.

George Fox’s new physician assistant (PA) program, set to launch in January of 2021, will be featured at the university’s Legacy League luncheon at noon on Friday, Jan. 17, in the Canyon Commons dining hall.

Gregory Davenport, chair of the School of Medical Science, will speak. The PA program will be affiliated with nearby clinics and is designed to help alleviate a nationwide shortage of physician assistants. Six professors and three staff already are hired for the program.

The Legacy League, previously known as the George Fox University Auxiliary, was renamed two years ago but serves with the same purpose and mission. Each year it raises funds for student scholarships, raising more than $25,000 last year. Funds are added to an endowment fund that last year provided three scholarships.

The food bank will have limited hours in the spring semester due to the remodeling of the demonstration kitchen, a project scheduled to begin this month.

Athletics would like to invite Newberg and surrounding communities (St. Paul, Sherwood, Dundee) to kick off the new year with a fun night of basketball free of charge.

The Bruins will face off against conference opponent Willamette tonight (Friday), with the women’s game tipping off at 6 p.m. and the men’s game at 8 p.m. This marks the start of Northwest Conference play for our teams.

Complimentary tickets will be offered to anyone who provides proof of address in Newberg, Dundee, St. Paul and Sherwood by showing their license.

Looking to learn tennis for the first time and don’t know where to start? Join our five-session beginner tennis course that teaches all of the basics. Each session will focus on a different aspect of the game:

• Jan. 6: Forehand
• Jan. 13: Backhand
• Jan. 20: Volleys/overhead
• Jan. 27: Serve/returns
• Feb. 3: Point play/scoring
