Plan to attend lecture on suffering and human flourishing

All are invited as the William Penn Honors Program hosts Ray Barfield to lecture on “Seeking God in the Ruins: A Pediatric Oncologist’s Story of Finding Beauty and Hope Amidst Suffering and Death.” The lecture will be held in Canyon Commons 101 at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Barfield will share how it’s not so much the absence of suffering, but rather our response to it, that fosters wholeness.

Barfield is a pediatric oncologist and palliative care physician. He lost his Christian faith after witnessing the suffering of children with cancer. Although he later returned to Christianity, his doubts transformed his perspective on human flourishing.
