Third Culture Kids host guest speaker tomorrow

Monday, April 8th, 2019

All are welcome to come enjoy food and discussion at Third Culture Kids. We will be meeting at the Intercultural Resource Center tomorrow (Wednesday) from 8 to 9 p.m.

This week we have an awesome guest speaker, Lauren Wells, coming to talk about TCKs and their need for change. What is a TCK? A TCK is an individual who, having spent a significant part of his or her developmental years in a culture other than that of his or her parents, develops a sense of relationship to both.

The TCK Club is a community created for anyone who grew up in another culture, missionary kids, or for those interested in missions and looking for a community, but everyone is welcome!

Authors discuss ‘America and the Just War Tradition’ tomorrow night

Sunday, April 7th, 2019

Come join us at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) as J. Daryl Charles and Mark David Hall, coeditors of America and the Just War Tradition: A History of U.S. Conflicts, discuss their recently published book.

The authors will provide a brief overview of the book, then Ron Mock and Gina Miller will respond to it. We’ll leave plenty of time for questions, comments and objections from the audience. We will meet in Hoover 105.

The panel may address questions such as: Is the just war tradition compatible with biblical Christianity? Was the War for American Independence a just war? What is the most unjust war America has ever fought? Was any war fought in a perfectly just manner? Does modern military technology make the just war tradition obsolete?

Questions? Contact Hall at mhall@georgefox.edu.

Apply to attend the Sundance Film Festival

Sunday, April 7th, 2019

We are now taking student applications for attending the Sundance Film Festival! Apply here.

In January 2020, selected George Fox students are traveling to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The Sundance Film Festival is widely regarded as the most prestigious annual showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers.

Along with the Sundance Festival, George Fox students will also be attending the Windrider Forum, a venue for conversations about the intersection of faith and film.

We are tentatively scheduled to attend from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1. Attending students will be required to notify professors in advance of anticipated absences, and create appropriate academic work plans. Personal costs for students will be approximately $975 (not including food and incidentals), depending on airline and lodging costs.

You do not need to be a Cinematic Arts or Communication major to attend.  Applications from all full-time undergraduate students will be considered, but we will be limited to traveling with approximately 10 to 12 selected students.

During the spring 2020 semester, CMCO 285/485, a selected topics course, will be offered on “Independent Cinema,” and will connect to the Sundance trip experience. Students will have the option (not requirement) of registering for this course to receive credit connected to the Sundance and later semester experiences.

Further questions? Contact Steve Classen, chair of the Department of Communication and Cinematic Arts, at sclassen@georgefox.edu.
