The Hadlock Student Center is looking for people with a love of the outdoors to join a guide program.

To kick this off, we have an eight-day training trip starting on May 6. This will be an immersive experience covering backcountry navigation, camp craft, rock climbing, and many other wilderness skills. The trip cost is $150, which includes food and transportation.

The first pre-trip meeting is on Wednesday, March 20, at 8:30 p.m. Fill out this online form to register.

Are you interested in taking your climbing to the next level by venturing outside? This is the class for you! We will cover a variety of topics, including knots, anchor building, and risks unique to outdoor climbing.

There are three class sessions on March 12, 14 and 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The course will conclude with an outdoor excursion on Saturday, April 13.

The course fee is $15 and needs to be paid prior to the first class session. Participants should be experienced climbers and have completed the Hadlock Student Center belay assessment or equivalent. Sign up at imleagues.com.

The Disc Golf Club will be heading to Hoover Park (a five-minute walk from Pennington Hall) to play a quick, nine-hole round of disc golf tomorrow (Saturday). We will be leaving from the Pennington parking lot at 10 a.m. and would love to have you join! No experience necessary, and discs will be provided.

There is a new museum exhibit in Stevens focusing on our international students over the years. “Global Ties” explores international students and sister schools from the 1950s to today and highlights some of the items in the George Fox University museum collection.

In addition, there is a new online exhibit: “Our History through Our Clothing” (1900-1949) explores some of those associated with Pacific College (the previous name of George Fox) and allows us to display many pieces of historic clothing in our collection. You can find it here.

Six early- to mid-career professionals from Intel will be on campus today (Thursday) from 1:25 to 2:40 p.m. in Hoover 105 to dive into the future of business and tech.

Students will also find out what employers are looking for in new hires, what the biggest challenges are in the marketplace today, and how students might go about gaining experience. All majors are welcome to attend!

The Center for Peace and Justice presents Promised Land, an indigenous film, on Tuesday, March 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Hoover 104. This film screening counts toward faculty development hours this semester.

Chinook Tribal Chairman Tony Johnson and the producers, Vasant and Sarah Salcedo, will be there for a Q&A following the film. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Promised Land is an award-winning social justice documentary that follows two tribes in the Pacific Northwest, the Duwamish and the Chinook, as they fight for the restoration of treaty rights they have long been denied. In following their story, the film examines a larger problem in the way that the government and society still look at tribal sovereignty.

Students and faculty are welcome to come early, from 3 to 4 p.m., to meet Chinook Tribal Chairman Tony Johnson in Hoover 211 or the film producers, Vasant and Sarah Salcedo, in Hoover 250.

A George Fox student and intern at Catalyst High School in Newberg is looking for mentors for students at Catalyst.

Students come to Catalyst for a variety of reasons, including academic circumstances, anxiety, depression, and social pressures. We are looking for people who are passionate about working with youth, encouraging, and supportive to be positive role models for these high school students.

Mentors would meet with students for about one hour a week between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Catalyst building. Catalyst is 1.5 miles from George Fox, and we could coordinate transportation if needed.

Catalyst is also looking for tutors

We have students who would benefit from extra encouragement and guidance from you. You would help them understand materials and assignments in general algebra, science, history and English classes.

Tutors would meet with students for about one to two hours a week between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Catalyst building. Follow this link for qualifications and responsibilities.
