Deputy CEO of billion-dollar company gives lecture Feb. 22

The George Fox University community is invited to a business lecture on Friday, Feb. 22, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Canyon Commons Room 101.

This special lecture will be given by Ms. Phuong Uyen Tran, deputy CEO of Tan Hiep Phat (THP) and author of Competing with Giants: How One Family-Owned Company Took on the Multinationals and Won. Ms. Tran leads THP in procurement, marketing, public relations and programs on social responsibility, and is a strong supporter of family-owned businesses and women in entrepreneurship.

In a modern-day “David and Goliath” story, THP – Ms. Tran’s family’s Vietnamese green tea company – said no to Coca-Cola’s $2.5 billion buyout offer and subsequently flourished into a billion-dollar business. Highlighting the leadership qualities and values her family held onto while weighing Coca-Cola’s buyout offer, she will show how this decision propelled the company to strong global growth while still recognizing and adapting to local consumer preferences.
