Guest PT doctor speaks on restoring limb function Tuesday

The Department of Physical Therapy is excited to host Dr. Jason Wilken, associate professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Iowa, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, in Canyon Commons 103.

Dr. Wilken will present the topic “Experience and Evidence – Evolution of a Custom Fiber Device to Restore Limb Function.” His presentation will provide a succinct overview of the problems facing individuals who have experienced catastrophic limb injuries, which include a life of reduced function and pain due to the limitations of commonly available devices.

Improvements in rehabilitative techniques and custom-carbon fiber ankle foot orthoses over the last 10 years now enable the return to high-level athletic activities, and even a full return to active duty. Dr. Wilken will present key aspects of device design, evidence to support their use, and considerations for training individuals seeking to return to high-level function.

Everyone is encouraged to attend this free event, ask questions and welcome Dr. Wilken to the university. Light refreshments will be served.
