George Fox University’s Center for Peace and Justice invites you to the 2017 John Woolman Peacemaking Forum on Monday and Tuesday, March 20-21. Our theme this year is “Peace: Personal and Global.”

This year, we welcome guest speaker Michelle Loyd-Paige, PhD, a professor of sociology and executive associate to the president for diversity and inclusion at Calvin College.

The university community is invited to a free Jazz Dialogues Concert at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Friday) in Bauman Auditorium.

This is our second annual unique, interdisciplinary presentation. This year’s lecture/recital is entitled “Jazz Dialogues: Women in the Jazz Age.” It features a lecture by Leah Payne, assistant professor of Christian studies, and performances by the university’s Jazz Ensemble, which will play the music of women composers including Mary Lou Williams, Billie Holiday, Maria Schneider and more.

LGBT+ rights is a huge hot topic in the United States, and has been a topic of great interest on the George Fox campus. My research focuses on opinions in the following areas: opinions about the nature, the origins, and the social norms and laws regarding LGBT+, and there will be a few questions about respondent demographics.

Join host Paul Anderson for a Sunday evening movie night to watch and discuss Of Gods and Men. Join us from 7 to 9:30 p.m. this Sunday, March 19, in Lemmons 8. Elective chapel credit is available for students.

Of Gods and Men tells the true story of Trappist monks whose members live among the Muslim population in a quiet corner of Algeria. As the country is plunged into civil war in the mid-1990s, the men of God must decide whether to stay among the impoverished residents who have been their neighbors, or flee the encroaching fundamentalist terrorists. The situation that unfolds, based on actual events, has tragic consequences.

Matheteis is partnering with Shalom to bring back the annual event Colored White Panel. In the same spirit as past Matheteis events, we will be discussing the topic of race and how everyone has a role in this conversation and everyone should be involved.

We will be gathering on Tuesday, March 21, at 8:30 p.m. in Canyon Commons 103. Snacks and elective chapel credit will be provided. This event is sponsored by the Intercultural Life office and Shalom.

It is my hope to get the attitudes and perceptions of law enforcement from students at George Fox regarding their own media usage.

Tickets for the Department of Art & Design’s fashion show are now available! This is the fashion program’s final show, as the major will be discontinued at the end of this year.

We are looking for individuals with an Achilles tendinopathy diagnosis or Achilles pain (in the middle of the tendon as opposed to heel) who are interested in improving their pain and function.

The study will involve a set workout routine, attending regular check-ups, and assessments of pain and function. The study will begin March 20, 2017.

Participants will receive monetary incentive for completing the 10-week program.

In January 2018, selected George Fox students are traveling to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The Sundance festival is widely regarded as the most prestigious annual showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers.

Alongside the Sundance Festival, George Fox students will also be attending the Windrider Forum, a venue for conversations about the intersections of faith and film.

We will be attending during the final full week of January. The tentative dates are Jan. 21-27, 2018. Attending students will be required to notify professors in advance of anticipated absences, and create appropriate academic work plans. Personal costs for students will most likely range from $850 to $950 (not including food and incidentals), depending on airline and lodging costs.

You do NOT need to be a CMCO (cinematic arts) or communication major to attend. Applications from all full-time undergraduate students will be considered, but we will be limited to traveling with 10 to 12 selected students.

During the Spring 2018 semester, CMCO 285/485, a selected topics course, will be offered on “Independent Cinema,” and will connect to the Sundance trip experience. Students will have the option (NOT requirement) of registering for this course to receive credit connected to the Sundance and later semester experiences.
