Nationally renowned flutist performs in Bauman Saturday
The university community is welcome to a free concert this Saturday, Jan. 23, featuring a nationally renowned flutist. Jonathan Borja will be the guest recital performer for the Fox Flute Fest in Bauman Auditorium beginning at 5 p.m.
Borja will be accompanied by Jennifer Garrett on piano and assisted by Sophia Tegart, instructor of flute at George Fox. The program will include fantasies on themes form operas by Bizet, Tchaikovsky, Mozart and others.
With performances described as “the highlight of the evening†(Kansas City Star), Borja enjoys a varied career as a performer and educator. He was recently appointed to the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse as assistant professor of music to teach flute and music history. Borja has performed throughout the United States and Mexico and has appeared in master classes throughout the United States and Europe, studying with some of the world’s leading flutists.
