Special ‘Saint John’s Bible’ sessions hosted each day this week in MLRC
In celebration of Pope Francis’ visit to America, George Fox will host a series of special sessions to discuss the artwork of The Saint John’s Bible this week. Organized by leaders of the Saint John’s University and Abby in Minnesota, seven pieces of art, selected among the 160 in its seven volumes, will be discussed and expanded upon each day. In all, more than 40 universities, churches and organizations nationwide are participating in the project.
At George Fox, the public is invited to attend each session at noon in the MLRC. Christian studies professor Paul Anderson has written up essays to accompany each painting, and an essay for each has been contributed by the Saint John’s community. The weekday sessions culminate with “The Turning of the Page†viewing of Volume 6: The Gospels and Acts on Friday, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m.
The paintings and texts to be discussed include:
- Tuesday – Abraham and Sarah (Pentateuch vol. – Genesis 15:1-7; 17:1-22)
- Wednesday – Ten Commandments (Pentateuch vol. – Exodus 20:1-26)
- Thursday – Peter’s Confession (Gospels & Acts vol. – Matthew 16:13-23)
- Friday – Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes (Gospels & Acts vol. – Mark 6:33-44; 8:1-10)
